Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! So since free agency has started, there has been a lot of change not only in the team rosters but in the players' personal lives. Martin Brodeur for example will be staying in New Jersey from a 2 year $9 million deal that will keep him playing in Prudential Center while Jaromir Jagr will be spending a year in Dallas from a 1 year $4.55 million deal that will send him from his home in the Northeast to a new home in the heart of Texas. From Wells Fargo Center to the American Airlines Center. Another big shift in the rosters for next year will be that New Jersey Captain Zach Parise and Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter have chosen to go to the Minnesota Wild for the 2012-2013 season. Both of those deals , for Zach and Ryan, were 13 year $98 million deals. But, ever since the big Parise/Suter deal nothing has really come up concerning signings. One big anticipation is to where right wing of the Columbus Blue Jackets Rick Nash is going. Some say he will go to the Red Wings. Where do you think he will go? Let me know in the comments below! On the 2012 NHL free agents list Alexander Semin, Shane Doan, Andrei Kostitsyn, Pavel Kubina, Teemu Selanne, Kyle Wellwood, Jaroslav Spacek, Brian Rolston, Tomas Holmstrom, Kristian Huselius, Jason Arnott, Scott Hannan, Carlo Colaiacovo, and Chris Campoli still have to sign. It is interesting to see where these guys will go because some many free agents have gone to places unexpected for example Zach and Ryan to Minnesota.

The next thing we should talk about is Raffi Torres. Now we all remember the hit Torres gave to Marian Hossa when the Coyotes were playing the Blackhawks in the playoffs. For this hit he recieved a 25 game suspension and would forefit about $170,731 during suspension time. This isn't the first time that Torres has been suspended for a hit like this, infact it is the third time this has happened. In recent news it has come up that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has taken 4 games off his 25 game suspension. This happened because after Brendan Shanahan's original ruling Raffi  filed for an appeal. The appeal went through and apparently Raffi Torres will come back into the NHL 4 games earlier. Now in the real world he would be called a repeat offender. Do you think that Torres could be charged in the NHL for this same "crime" for a fourth time? I don't know about you, but in my opinion, I think he might get charged for it again. I am not trying to be biased or anything but people who do things more then once will generally do them again.

Now it is time for the "Players of Today". For the European player we have Finnish HPK SM-liiga player Antti Roppo. For the Junior player we have Missoula Maulers player David Johnson. For the NHL player we have Tampa Bay Lightning player Vincent Lecavalier.

Starting off with the European Player. Antti Roppo is 5ft 11in., 179lbs, and is from Tampere, Finland. He is a right wing and plays for the HPK SM-liiga. During the 2011-2012 season, Antti had 6 goals in 54 games played, 5 assists, 11 TPs, 8 PIMs, and a +/- of -12. In the 2012-2013 season, he is signed with the KooKoo Finland2 team. Roppo is a very good winger who controls the puck well and dominates the ice. Each shift is played well and in form. Good luck Antti with your future hockey career!

The next player we are going to review is Missoula Maulers' forward David Johnson. David is 5ft. 11in, 190lbs, and is from Anaheim Hills, California, USA. In the 2011-2012 season, He had 2 goals in 16 games played, 2 assists, 4 TPs, a +/- of 6, 8 PIMs, and 1 power play goal. In the 2012 playoffs, David had 1 goal in 5 games played, 0 assists, 1 TP, and 2 PIMs.  I don't know where he is signed with for the 2012-2013 season but, wherever he is signed, he will surely help the team and be an important player on the team. David is a very good player with great puck control and on-ice vision.  He plays the puck well, makes smart and quick-witted passes, and can get the puck to where it needs to be. Good luck David in your future hockey career and hopefully another great season with the Maulers!

Now we have the NHL player. Vincent Lecavalier is 6ft. 4in, 208lbs, and is from Ile Bizard, QC, Canada. He was drafted 1st round 1st overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1998 Entry Draft. He is a center and captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning and has played with them for his entire NHL career. In the 2011-2012 season, Vincent had 22 goals in 64 games played, 27 assists, 49 TPs, a +/- of -2, 50 PIMs, 5 power play goals, 0 shorthanded goals, 5 game winning goals, 182 shots on goal, and a S% of 12.1. He played with the Notre Dame Midget Hounds in the SMHL and the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL. Vincent has also played on the Canadian Olympic team and the Ak Bars Kazan of the RSL. He is a very good player and can control the puck well. He will do almost anything to get the puck and almost anything to keep it. Good luck Vincent in your future hockey and NHL career!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
