Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about two big deals that happened this week. The suspense where Rick Nash will be going and where Shea Weber will be going is over and here are the results. Rick Nash will be trading in Columbus for New York City. Yes Rick Nash is going to the Rangers. On Friday it was announced that the New York Rangers will be sending Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, defensive prospect Tim Erixon, and a first round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to Columbus. Besides receiving Nash, the Rangers will be getting a conditional third round pick and minor league defenseman Steve Delisle. Now this is a good deal for both teams. Even though the Rangers are losing some of their top scorers they are gaining a very reliable player that will carry his responsibilities on the team and will hold up on his own. Now having a roster including "King Henry" Henrik Lundqvist, Marian Gaborik, Michael Del Zotto, and now Rick Nash, the Rangers will have a chance to strengthen their core team. For the Blue Jackets, they will get some much needed scorers and room to expand their team for future scoring possibilities. In other terms, this deal will temporarily patch up a rivalry between the Columbus GM and the New York GM,  Scott Howson and Glen Sather. Personally, this was the deal of free agency and one that the Rangers would out of their mind if they gave it up.

Now, we have come to Shea Weber. It was a tough decision, but the smaller-franchised Nashville Predators have decided to match the offer that Philly offered Weber and keep their star defenseman. Look out NHL, Weber is a Predator and he is a rising star emerging from one of the richest and longest contracts in the NHL. At a 14 year $110 million deal, unless something drastic happens, Shea will be a Predator for a long time. He can thank the Flyers for that one. Will there be a Stanley Cup in the franchises future, will he be willing to lead his team through the tough times and the bad to rise to the time? Time will only tell. But with this investment, the Predators believe he can and will. I personally believe he will. Just for the fact his talent is incredible and his determination is so strong.

We have come to the "Players of Today"! For the European player we have Luleå Elitserien center/right wing Sebastian Enterfeldt. For the junior player we have Brooks Bandits forward Anthony Petruzzelli. For the NHL player we have Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Starting off with the European player. Sebastian is 5ft. 11in, 201lbs, and is from Gavle, Sweden. In the 2011-2012 season, he had 8 goals in 45 games played, 14 assists, 22 TPs, 8 PIMs, and a +/- of 1. He is signed with the Brynas Elitserien team for the 2012-2013 season. Sebastian is a very good and skilled two way player who reads the game well and is very smart on the ice. He has very soft hands and is a great playmaker with outstanding skating ability. Good luck Sebastian with Brynas and in your future hockey career!

Next we have the junior player. Anthony is 5ft. 10in, 174lbs, and is from Federal Way, Washington, USA. In the 2011-2012 season, he had 23 goals in 59 games played, 24 assists, 47 TPs, and 34 PIMs. Anthony has great on-ice vision, puck handling skills, and has amazing scoring capabilities. I don't know where he is signed with for the 2012-2013 season, but that team will definitely improve from his soft hands, ice smarts, and his impressive strategic planning to be where the puck is. Good luck Anthony in your 2012-2013 season and in your future hockey career!

Now we have the NHL player. Erik Karlsson is 6ft. 0in, 180lbs, and is a defenseman for the Ottawa Senators from Landsbro, Sweden, He was drafted by Ottawa in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft 1st round 15th overall. Erik has played on the Sodertalje SK U18-Swe-U18, Frolunda HC Goteborg-Sweden, Boras HC-Sweden-2, and the Binghamton Senators-AHL teams. In the 2011-2012 NHL regular season, he had 19 goals in 81 games played, 59 assists, 78 TPs, a +/- of 16, 42 PIMs, 3 power play goals, 0 shorthanded goals, 5 game winning goals, 261 shots on goal, and a shot percentage of  7.3. These statistics are actually very good for a defenseman. He was the 2012 NHL Awards night James Norris Memorial Trophy winner for the NHL's best defenseman. Erik is the complete package with defensive skills, great accuracy, tight with the blue line, and amazing speed. I just have to put this in here, he rivals Kris Letang for the NHL's best flow, I think. As I was saying, he is the complete package with soft hands, great on-ice vision, and smarts in the ice. Good luck Erik in the 2012-2013 season and in your future NHL career!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
