Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this episode, we will be talking about Nashville's risky move about losing both Weber and Suter, Drew Doughty's date rape case, and Ondrej Pavelec's drunk driving sentence. Starting off with Nashville. It appeared this week that Shea Weber could be packing his bags and moving to Philadelphia. Upon free agency, the Philadelphia Flyers have signed Shea Weber, captain of the Nashville Predators, to a 14 year $110 million offer sheet. This means that the Predators have 7 days to match this offer or accept 4 1st round draft picks as compensation for Weber leaving. Now, many think that the Predators will have to match because of losing Ryan Suter to Minnesota. Personally, I don't think that they can afford to lose another one of their star players. The Predators will have to be willing to spend big bucks and hope that this deal will be worth it in the end.
The next thing we will talk about is Drew Doughty's date rape case. A couple of months ago it came up that Drew Doughty of the L.A Kings was being charged with date rape. In recent news, a report came out on Wednesday that the prosecutors have declined to file a date rape charge citing insufficient evidence. Then we have another case against Winnipeg Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Pavelec was banned 20 months from driving in his native country of Czech Republic for drunk driving. Ondrej also received a 6 month suspended prison sentence for causing a traffic accident on May 26th in his hometown of Kladno. Now these bans will only take effect in Czech Republic. He had hit a car with his BMW and there were no injuries.
Now, we have come to the "Players of Today". For the European player we have Tampa Bay draft pick and Tolpar Ufa goaltender Andrei Vasilevski. For the Prospect player we have USA Hockey National Team Development Program and Winnipeg Jets draft pick Jacob Trouba. For the Junior player we have Charlotte Checkers left wing Justin Shugg.

Starting off with the European pick. Andrei Vasilevski is 6ft. 3in, 203lbs, and is from Tyumen, Russia. He was drafted 1st round 19th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. In the 2011-2012 season, Andrei had 27 games played, 2.23 goals against average, and a save percentage of .931. I don't know where he is signed for the 2012-2013 season. He has a big frame that covers the net well and is very consistent. Andrei has great technical skills and is very quick in the cage. He is the goaltender for the Tolpar Ufa and the Russian U18-U20 teams. Good luck Andrei with the Lightning and in your future hockey career!

Next off we have the Prospect player. Jacob Trouba is 6ft. 1in, 172lbs, and is from Rochester, Michigan, USA. He was drafted 1st round 9th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. In the 2011-2012 season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program of the USHL, Jacob had 4 goals in 22 games played, 14 assists, 18 TPs, and 35 PIMs. He has great on-ice vision and great puck handling skills. Jacob is the kind of defenseman who will control the blue line and try his hardest not to let the puck pass him. I don't know where he is signed for the 2012-2013 season. Good luck Jacob with the Jets and in your future hockey career!

Lastly, we have the junior player. Justin Shugg is 5ft. 10in, 185lbs, and is from Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada. He was drafted 4th round 105th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Justin is playing for the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL until the 2013-2014 season. In the 2011-2012 season. he had 5 goals in 33 games played, 8 assists, 13 TPs, 12 TPs, and a +/- of 5. For the first part of the 2011-2012 season, He was playing for the Florida Everblades. Justin is a very good left wing who tries to work well with his linemates and who will go top cheddar once in a while. Good luck Justin with the Checkers and in your future hockey career!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
