Bicuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog, we will be taking about the Kings vs. Coyotes series finale and the Rangers vs. Devils series. Starting off with the Kings vs. Coyotes series. What a major turn of events! With the the LA Kings becoming the Western Conference champions and moving onto the Stanley Cup finals, this will be the first time since 1993! The drought is over! Going into overtime, Canadian left wing Dustin Penner saved the Kings from a treacherous Game 6 at 17:42 and went top shelf on Mike Smith to be the game clincher, stealing the game 4-3! Two apples were given to Canadian center Jeff Carter and Russian defenseman Slava Voynov. To start the game off in the first period, Phoenix Coyotes' left wing Taylor Pyatt pushed a biscuit past the unstoppable Jonathan Quick at 4:20 on a power play assisted by Czech center Martin Hanzal and Czech right wing Radim Vrbata. The Kings fired back with a snipe by Slovene center Anze Kopitar at 11:13 shorthanded assisted by Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty and American captain and right wing Dustin Brown. By the way the game is being played, we can tell there is MUCH tension on the ice and more effort is being put out by the Coyotes to be able to continue their race to the finish. Feeling the pressure, Canadian center Marc-Antoine Pouliot broke top cheddar on Quick at 6:23 in the second period assisted by Czech defenseman Rostislav Klesla and Canadian center Kyle Chipchura. Playing the puck back to back, Drew Doughty gained control and scored on Smith at 11:06 assited by Canadian center Colin Fraser and Canadian right wing Justin Williams. The Kings make a rebound a get yet another goal from Canadian center Mike Richards at 13:43 assisted by Canadian left wing Dustin Penner and Canadian center Jeff Carter. Tying things up with a slapshot at 16:23 from American defenseman assisted by Canadian left wing Taylor Pyatt. There was no scoring in the third so,then into overtime, Dustin Penner saved the Kings. Of course. I am excited to see who we meet in the Finals and who hoists the cup! Good luck in the Finals to the LA Kings and Good luck next year Coyotes.

Now, we move onto the Rangers vs. Devils. Leading the series 3-2, the Devils have a shot at meeting the Kings for the Stanley Cup. In the first period, Canadian defenseman Bryce Salvador shot one past Lundqvist at 8:10 assisted by Russian left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky and Canadian right wing David Clarkson. Another goal to shock Henrik Lundqvist was from Canadian center Travis Zajac at 11:59 assisted by American captain Zach Parise and Lithuanian rightwing/center Dainius Zubrus. Some 5 minute major penalties for fighting were passed around to Adam Henrique and Ryan McDonagh. In the second period, there was no scoring, but in the third, Devils captain Zach Parise picked up the slack by shooting the biscuit past Henrik at 2:41 on a power play assisted by Russian left winger Ilya Kovalchuk and Canadian center Adam Henrique. To let the Rangers feel like they accompolished something, Brodeur let one slip past at 14:55 from Ukrainian left winger Ruslan Fedotenko assisted by Canadian center Brad Richards and Canadian defenseman Michael Del Zotto. Then to pick up the pace again, Zach Parise slapped one to the net at 18:31 assisted by Canadian defenseman Bryce Salvador and Canadian golatender Martin Brodeur. Way to go Devils good luck with Game 4 and good luck to the Rangers for fending off the Devils! Let me know in the comments who you think will win the Eastern Conference Championship and move on to the Cup Finals!

Now, we move onto the "Players of Today." For the Europeam pick we have Jokerit U20 Jr. A SM-liiga defenseman Markus Hannikainen, For the goalie we have Boston Bruins' goaltender Tim Thomas. For the NHL player we have Pittsburgh Penguins' center Jordan Staal.

Starting with the European pick. Markus Hannikainen is 6ft. 2in, 183lbs, and is from Helsinki, Finland. He is currently playing with the Jokerit U20 Jr. A SM-liiga team and had 6 goals in 16 games played, 7 assists, 13 TPs, and 12 PIMs. He is signed with the Jokerit SM-liiga team through the 2012-2013 season. In the 2011-2012 season playoffs, he had 5 goals in 12 games played, 5 assists, 10 TPs, and 2 PIMs. Markus can really work the ice to make it the way he wants it and protect his zone. He uses size and strength to make a perfect defenseman. Keep rocking it Markus and good luck playing with Team Finland and in your future hockey career!

Now we have the goalie pick. Tim Thomas is 5ft. 201lbs, and is from Flint, Michigan, USA. He has played on many national teams and won the cup with the Bruins in 2011. In the regular 2011-2012 season, he had 35 wins in 58 games played, 19 loses, 0 ties, 1 OT, 5 shut outs, 132 goals against, 1,659 shots against, .920 save percentage, 2.36 goals against average,  and 3,352 minutes played. Tim is very good at covering the crease and stopping alot of the pucks from going top shelf or back handed. Has a great buttterfly technique. Good job Tim and good luck with the Bruins and the NHL!

Then we have the NHL pick. Jordan Staal is 6ft. 4in, 220lbs, and is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Playing as a center for the Pittsburgh Penguins, he recorded in the 2011-2012 season 25 goals in 62 games played, 25 assists, 50 TPs, a +/- of 11, 34 PIMs, 5 power play goals, 3 shorthanded goals, 0 game winning goals, 149 shots, and a shot percentage of 16.8. Jordan is one of the brothers from "Hockey's first family". His brother is Marc from the Rangers and Eric and Jared from the Carolina Hurricanes. Jordan played for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL for his junior team starting in 2004-2005. Jordan uses his size and strength to crush his enemies and gain control of the puck as we saw in Game 5 when he scored at hat trick and the game ended 10-3 Penguins taking it back to Pittsburgh for another win. Then they were eliminated. :(. I miss watching Jordan and all the Penguins play! Great job Jordan with the Penguins and good luck in your future NHL career!

Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
