Biscuits and Breezers
Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In
this episode of Biscuits and Breezers, we will be discussing the Coyotes vs.
Predators series finale and the Devils eliminating the Flyers. Starting off
with the Coyotes vs. Predators Series Finale. Let’s just say that the Phoenix
Coyotes are going to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in franchise
history. Then before going onto beat the
Predators 2-1 on home ice, the team was informed of a deal that would give the
Coyotes a new owner, one that could end the uncertainty of the team. Mike Smith
was a major factor of why the Coyotes were able to fend off the Predators
making 32 saves and had a save percentage 0f .970. Even being a hardcore
Penguins fan, giving a gift to the Coyotes like this and then having them go to
the Finals creates a happy feeling inside. The kind of feeling you get when you
see someone deserving get what they deserve.
Most likely, the new owner of the Coyotes will be former San Jose Sharks
CEO Greg Jamison. There was no goals in the first period but two counteracting
goals from Canadian Defenseman Derek Morris at 3:54 assisted by Canadian
Captain and Forward Shane Doan and Canadian center Antione Vermette. The second
goal was from Czech center Martin Hanzal at 15:09 assisted by Canadian center
Kyle Chipchura and Canadian Center Daymond Langkow. Nashville was allowed one
goal in the third period from Canadian Forward Colin Wilson at 14:01 assisted
by American forward David Legwand and American defenseman Ryan Suter. Even
though it is sad to see the Preds knocked off the leaderboard. Going 0 –for-4
must be pretty upsetting but, we have to give a round of applause to the Preds
for putting their best out there and trying their hardest. Good job Preds for
trying and Good luck Phoenix in the Stanley Cup Finals!
Now, we move onto the more exciting news of the day…THE
FLYERS WERE ELIMINATED FINALLY!!! The Flyers were pushed into the abyss of
elimination by the New Jersey Devils and are heading back to Philly with the
painful truth. Elimination was always present and the goaltending wasn’t at its
strongest. Winning Game 5 3-1, the Devils are headed to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Martin Brodeur was definitely on his game tonight with making 27 saves and a
save percentage of .964. Way to go Martin! In the first period we have a goal
from former Penguin Canadian winger Maxime Talbot at 7:18 assisted by Canadian
center Brayden Schenn and Canadian center Danny Briere. The Devils respond with
a goal from Canadian defenseman Bryce Salvador at 9:27 assisted by Canadian
center Adam Henrique and Russian winger Ilya Kovalchuk. Then at 12:45 in the first we have another
Devils’ goal unassisted by Canadian right winger David Clarkson. There was no
scoring in the second period. Then to make the game exciting we have a goal
from Russian winger Ilya Kovalchuk at 5:00 assisted by Canadian center Adam
Henrique and Lithuanian right winger Dainius Zubrus. Good job and luck in the
Finals New Jersey!
Now, we move on to “Players of Today”. For the European
player, we have Allsvenskan Oskarshamn J20, J20 Elit, player Rasmus Djerf. For
the NHL Prospect, we have Elitserien Rogle BK player and first round prospect
Hampus Lindholm. Finally for the NHL player, we have Colorado Avalanche swede,
Gabriel Landeskog
Starting off with the European player. Rasmus Djerf is 5 ft. 11in, 179 lbs, and is
from Valdemarsvik, Sweden. Rasmus is a right wing playing for the Allsvenksan’s
Oskarshamn J20 and Oskarshamn J20 Elit teams in the 2011-2012 season. During
the 2011-2012 season, Djerf had 18 goals in 21 games played, 21 assists, 39
TPs, and 10 PIMs. He is signed with the Super Elit team HV71 J20 for the
2012-2013 season. Rasmus can get with the puck and stick with it until it is
between the pipes. Almost sniper like. I definitely think that Rasmus should
get recognized for his efforts, because it shows in the statistics, he can
connect and make those important goals. 18 goals in 21 games played. That is
almost 1 goal every game. Not everyone
can do that. I hope you go far Rasmus,
you’re doing great now! Keep with it! For all we know, anyone of these young
guys could become the next Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Bobby
Orr, or Mario Lemieux. Keep rocking it Rasmus! Doing a fantastic job! Good Luck
in your future hockey career!
Next we move onto the NHL Prospect. Hampus Lindholm. Hampus
is 6 ft. 2 in, 185 lbs, and is from Helsingborg, Sweden. Lindholm is a
defenseman from the Rogle BK J20 Super Elit team and had 5 goals in 28 games played
12 assists, 17 TPs, and 16 PIMs. Hampus is a top European Prospect for the 2012
NHL Entry Draft and is expected to go to the Boston Bruins in the first round.
Hampus can get the puck and never let it pass that blue line. He is a very
promising prospect and will do well on any team he is on. So far, he signed
with the Rogle BK j20 SuperElit team for the 2012-2013 season. Keep rocking it,
and keep the stride up Hampus! Good luck in the draft and in your future hockey
career!
Lastly, we move onto the NHL player of today, Gabriel
Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche. Gabriel is a left winger from Stokholm,
Sweden. He is 6 ft. 1 in, and is 207 lbs. He used to play for the J20 SuperElit
team in the Swedish league Djurgardens IF. Playing for the Avalanche, Gabriel
has 22 goals in 82 games played, 30 assists, 52 points, a +/- of 20, 51 PIMs, 6
power play goals, 0 shorthanded goals, 5 game winning goals, 270 shots on goal,
and a 8.1 S% in the 2011-2012 NHL season. His nickname is Landy to the public
but to the Av’s its Whitey. Being his rookie year, he has done quite well, I
think. He also played for the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers. Gabriel has great on ice
vision and can really bring out all his tricks when he is on the ice. Good luck
next year Gabriel! Keep improving every day! Maybe we all should practice our
“Landeskoging” moves for next year’s season!
