Biscuits and Breezers
#10
Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will be talking about the Rangers vs. Devils series and Game 2 of the Kings vs. Coyotes series . Starting off with the Rangers vs. Devils series. The Rangers knocked some sense into the rusty Devils by shutting out the Devils and flying past them 3-0. The last time the Devils played was on May 8th so they are a little rusty. Henrik Lundqvist shut out the Devils with a save percentage of 1.00 and 21 saves. Good job Henrik! The first goal of the game was scored in the 3RD period! That's crazy! All the goals were one after another. The Rangers' first goal came from Canadian defenseman Dan Girardi at 0:53 assisted by Canadian left wing Chris Kreider and Canadian defenseman Michael Del Zotto. Then Chris Kreider claimed his own goal at 12:00 on a power play goal assisted by Russian center Artem Anisimov and an assist to top off his goal, Canadian defenseman Dan Girardi. It seemed to be a trend that if you make an assist, you make a goal. Following this trend, Artem Anisimov shoved the final goal past Brodeur at 18:33 in the third assisted by American forward Brian Boyle and Ukrainian left wing Ruslan Fedotenko. The Rangers are going to get a home ice head start with Game 2 also in Madison Square Gardens on May 16th. I am looking forward to how this series will heat up and how long it will take for one team to move into the Stanley Cup Final!! I am sooooo hyped up to see who will hoist the cup this year and who's name will be engraved on the side to join the history and fellow members of the Stanley Cup winners. Good luck to both teams and let the best team win!
Next we move onto the Kings vs. Coyotes Game 2. What a game! Goals in every period and another sweep for the Kings, so far, we can clearly see where this series is headed. The Kings are driven and they are not going to stop until they are raising the Cup and taking that first sweet sip of champagne. Exciting enough as the game was Carter's hat trick and Martin Hanzal's 1-game ban for the hit for boarding Kins' captain Dustin Brown made the game THAT much more exciting. The Kings had one goal in period one, two goals in period two, and one in period three. Stealing Game 2 4-0, Kings' goalie Jonathan Quick shut out the Coyotes making 24 saves and a save percentage of 1.00. Starting the game off on the right foot, Canadian left wing Dwight King scored a goal past Coyotes' Mike Smith at 13:15 assisted by Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty and American center/right wing Trevor Lewis. The Kings scored their second goal of the game at 4:47 in the second from Canadian center Jeff Carter, who also made the final 2 goals in the game having a toal of 3 goals, assisted by Canadian left wing Dustin Penner and Canadian center Mike Richards. Continuing on with his goal streak, Jeff Carter used Mike Smith's blind spot and scored another goal on a power play at 18:49 in the second period assisted by Slovene center Anze Kopitar and Canadian right wing Justin Williams. The final goal of the game was scored in the third period by none other than the goal crazy Jeff Carter at 12:56 assisted by American captain and right wing Dustin Brown and Slovene center Anze Kopitar. Game 3 will be held in LA at the Staples Center. Do you think that the Coyotes could take the series and run with it or will the Kings sweep the Coyotes and leave them eating dust? Let me know in the comments below!
Now, we move onto the "Players of Today". Today, we have Anton Slepyshev of the Metallung Novouznetsk of the KHL for the European pick. For the prospect pick we have Ryan Murray from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. Now, for the junior/AWHL pick we have Dunk Abbott of the Missoula Maulers of the AWHL.
First off, we have Anton Slepyshev. He is 6ft 1in, 181lbs, and is a left wing. Anton is from Penza, Russia. He made captain for the Russian U18 team of the WJC-18 in which he had 3 goals in 6 games played, 4 assists, 7 TPs, and 6 PIMs. He is signed with the Metallung Novokuznetsk through the 2012-2013 season and is also a 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect. During the regular season with the KHL, Anton had 4 goals in 39 games played, 3 assists, 7 TPs, and 6 PIMs. During the playoffs, he had 1 goal in 3 games played, 0 assists, 1 TP, and 0 PIMs. He has very good on-ice vision and has a good frame. Good luck Anton in the NHL draft and in your future hockey career!
Next off, we have Dunk Abbott. He is 6ft 1in, 170lbs, defenseman, and is from Butte, Montana, USA. In the regular 2011-2012 season, Dunk had 4 goals in 30 games played, 14 assists, 18 TPs, and 102 PIMs. It is unclear where Dunk is going as in hockey for the 2012-2013 season, but it seems that he has signed a contract to play football for the University of Montana grizzlies. Dunk is a defenseman who is not afraid to get chippy for possesion of the puck. He is a player who will keep the puck inside the blue line and make sure it stays there. All in all, he is a very good defenseman. Dunk went to the AWHL playoffs with the Maulers and had 1 goal in 10 games played, 4 assists, 5 TPs, and 13 PIMs. Good luck Dunk in your future hockey careeer and playing football with the Grizzlies!
Last but not least, we have NHL prospect Ryan Murray. He is a 6ft 0in, 185lb defenseman from White City, Saskatchewan, Canada. Ryan has played with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL since his debut in the 2008-2009 season. He played in the World Junior Hockey Championships for Team Canada and won the bronze medal. In the regular season, Ryan had 9 goals in 46 games played, 22 assists, 31 TPs, and 31 PIMs. In the playoffs for the 2011-2012 season, he had 3 goals in 4 games played, 2 assists, 5 TPS, and 0 PIMs. As a 2012 NHL Entry draft prospect, he is expected to go to the New York Islanders. Ryan is a very good defenseman who likes to take contol of the puck. He is a blue-liner with good frame, on-ice vison, isn't a bender or a duster, and basically gets the job no matter what. Not a big time chirper. Good luck Ryan in your future hockey career and in the NHL draft!
