Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will be talking about an amazing USHL goal and Max Pacioretty leaving the Swiss league due to injuries. Starting off with a major beaut from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. This was an amazing goal let me put it plain and simple. A player by the name of Dylan McLaughlin is the source of this goal and the only words to describe it would be "Dangle" "Snipe" and "Celly". What happened was his teammates and he were rushing down the ice, ready to score a goal, he gets a pass that ends up infront of him, dangles it between his own legs, and goes top shelf on the goalie! You will have to watch the video to understand why it is unbelievably astounding, but once you do you will believe every word I say! It is on NHL's site, Facebook, and practically anywhere having to do with ice hockey. Well done Dylan, well done. Go check the video out! I think if he keeps up like this, Dylan Laughlin could be in the NHL in the near future.

The next thing we have to talk about is Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty coming back home to the states. With the lockout sending players to Europe, one is coming back. Playing with the Swiss club HC Ambri Piotta, Pacioretty has been battling reoccurring injuries that ultimately are cutting his European season short. Deciding that it would be better to recover and do therapy back in the states Max is headed back to his home in Connecticut where he will hopefully have a speedy recovery. He plans to join informal workouts with trainers in Montreal just to stay active during these dark times in the NHL right now.  I hope he has a speedy recovery and will be able to play at full strength soon.

I want to give a couple of shout outs before I get to the "Players of Today". First off I want to congratulate my boys over at the Maulers for winning against the Great Falls Americans 7-2 and the Helena Bighorns crushing the Gillette Wild 8-3! Way to go boys keep it up! I also wanted to give a shout out to www.swedishstickhandling.com for being an active member on my page and voting me "Fan of the Week" twice so far. Go check out their website and like them on Facebook, let’s get them to 100 likes before the end of the month please! Also you can friend me on Facebook at Biscuits Breezers for all the updates and blog/hockey news so send a friend request my way! One more thing, we are at 1600 views which means that there is only 400 to go before we get to 2000 views! I know you guys can help me get there because you have been racking up views and have gotten me this far, thank you so much! The next Maulers game is the 19th of October and the next Bighorns game is the 18th against the Bozeman Icedogs so make sure to check them out. Hopefully I will be able to keep track of a European team if you want...any suggestions?

Now, for the "Players of Today". For the goalie pick we have University of Minnesota-Duluth goaltender Alex Fons. For the junior pick we have Rimouski Oceanic center Frederik Gauthier. For the European pick we have Vaxjo Lakers J20 defenseman Carl Nisser.

Starting off with the goalie pick. Alex is 6ft. 1in, 190lbs, and is from Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA. Prior to playing at Minnesota-Duluth, he was in the cage for the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL), Alexandria Blizzard (NAHL), and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs (NAHL). During the 2011-2012 season with the Ice Dogs, Fons had 29 games played, 1 assist, 12 PIMS, 1649 minutes played, 64 goals against, 4 shut outs, 2.33 goals against average, 21 wins, 5 losses, 2 ties, 627 saves, and 0.907 save percentage. Alex has great butterflies, glove catches, and generally protects the cage very well. He uses the net to his advantages, not trying to stretch himself, possibly to expose a free goal, just to try to save a puck that went wide. The posts worked with him not against him. Good luck Alex with the Bulldogs (Minnesota-Duluth) this year and your future hockey career!

Next we have the junior player. Frederik is 6ft. 3in, 192lbs, and is from Mascouche, Quebec, Canada. In the 2011-2012 season with the College Esther-Blondin Phenix in the QMAAA, he had 26 goals in 39 games played, 25 assists, 51 TPs, and 28 PIMs. Frederik is a very good clean player who plays the game just to play the game. You can tell he has an undying passion for the game and grabs every moment he can get to play on the ice. Frederik is a great player who tries his hardest and it shows with his passes, determination, effort, and his goals. Good luck Frederik with the Oceanic and your future hockey career!

Last but not least, we have the European player. Carl is 5ft. 10in, 172lbs, and is from Stockholm, Sweden. In the 2011-2012 season with Malmo J20 SuperElit team, he had 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, 8 PIMs, and a +/- of 2. Carl is a very good defenseman with keen eyes and quick hands. He keeps the blue line sharp and defends it to the end. Carl has fast skates and amazing effort towards the game. It shows on the ice as well as on the bench. If he isn't playing a shift he is cheering on his team mates and encouraging them the entire way, ready to jump in at a moments notice. I think that he is very enthused with what he does and would do anything to help his team win no matter the consequences. Good luck Carl with Vaxjo and your future hockey career!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
