Now for the injuries. First off, Andrew Shaw of the Chicago Blackhawks, will not play in Game 3 of the Round 2 series against the Minnesota Wild due to a lower body injury. Coach Joel Quenneville announced this on Monday. He is expected to be in the line up for Game 4 and won't be a major setback in Game 3. He was injured after getting hit by Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner in the first period. Shaw was hit into the boards, fell to the ice, and limped off to the dressing room. He did not return. Lastly, Adam McQuaid of the Boston Bruins is out for the rest of the season. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle last Thursday and will be in recovery mode for the next 8 weeks. Adam has been out of since January 19th and now that will be lengthened quite a bit longer. On Saturday he was seen with crutches and a cast on his right foot. This is not the first time he has tried to come back into the game due to many setbacks. Get well soon!
Now for the "Players of Today!" For the junior pick we have Southern Oregon Spartans forward Justus Saldeen. For the goalie pick we have Everett Silvertips goaltender Austin Lotz. For the European pick we have Long Beach Bombers assistant captain and defenseman Xavier Boissel Dombreval.
Xavier is 6 ft 2 in, 187 lbs, and is from Rouen, France. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 2 goals in 43 games played, 12 assists, 14 TPs, 88 PIMs, 1 power play goal, and 1 power play assist. I love the way Xavier plays because he is a large and intelligent defenseman who knows how to lead great shifts that are incredibly powerful and hard working. He is there until the very end of the game and is almost always giving his absolute best to his team. Dombreval is the type of player teams all over the globe are looking for because he quick and agile on his skates, he is very smart out on the ice, he is extremely confident on how he plays his game, and does't shy away from working the boards or the hard hitting side of the sport. One of the best parts of his game is that, besides everything else he has going on, is that he is constantly looking for ways to improve how his team is performing whether that may be filling in holes in the lines, getting more shots on the goal, getting the puck to his teams more often, or picking up slack in the physicality department. Xavier is the all in one player who never stops working. He is a phenomenal defenseman who would improve any team he is signed with and is definitely the type of player who gives his entire heart to the sport. Good luck Xavier with the Bombers and your future hockey career!

Now for the news. Today the headlines we will be discussing the Carolina Hurricanes coaching readjustment, Shaw out for Game 3, McQuaid's broken ankle, and Carey Price finds his lost dogs via Twitter. First off with Carey Price! Just about everyone in the hockey community loves the life and times of Canadiens goaltender Carey Price. Early on Monday, Price went to Twitter searching for his two Labrador Retrievers that went missing early that morning near a southern suburb on Montreal (Candiac.) The radio station TSN Radio 690 also reported the news and soon enough, a listener called in reporting that he had found the two labs. According to reports, the lucky person that found Price's dogs was given an autographed stick as a reward. After Tuesday morning's practice, Price told reporters, "I was preoccupied and they snuck out the garage doors. They turned up this morning." Mozart (Motty for short) and Duke have run away before so Price wasn't too concerned but his wife Angela suggested taking to Twitter for help. The funniest part of this entire situation was that Price was woken up incredibly early in the morning and greeted the "dog rescuer" in his bath robe. They may be NHL superstars but when it comes to their pets, they are just like everyone else.
Next up, we have the Carolina Hurricanes. After one week in his new position of General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, Ron Francis has fired Coach Kirk Muller and most of the coaching staff. The main antagonist behind this decision was the Hurricanes not making it into the playoffs every season with Muller behind the bench. Assistant coaches John MacLean and Dave Lewis were also fired. Goalie coach Greg Stefan was one of the positives that came out of this ordeal seeing that he was reassigned to the pro scouting department. Rod Brind'Amour was also very lucky considering he was kept on with the Hurricanes as Assistant coach. The team hasn't made the playoffs since 2009 and Mullers record with the team throughout his seasons were 80-80-27. Francis is also warning that every player on the roster, from the snipers, to the grinders, to the super stars, isn't locked in place and that changes will be coming. He also believes that team needs a "fresh start" after only making the playoffs once in 8 years. After finishing 13th in a 16 team Eastern conference, who knows what's going to come next. A working title for this might be, "Team Makeovers: the Carolina Hurricanes edition." Best of luck to everyone working with the Hurricanes, I fear there may be rough waters ahead.

Justus is 5 ft 11 in, 175 lbs, and is from Malmo, Sweden. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 12 goals in 44 games played, 15 assists, 27 TPs, 95 PIMs, 5 power play goals, 3 power play assists, and 2 game winning goals. When you think of a large European power forward with the hands of a sniper and the aggression of grinder, you would think of Justus Saldeen. As he progressed through the ranks of the Spartans, Saldeen grew to be one of the most physically intimidating and talented players out on the ice. He is the type of player that teams are looking for nowadays because he can keep a strong scoring game while maintaining an incredibly fierce physical game. Justus is definitely the type of player who should be showing up in the big name leagues. It is always fantastic to have a skater like him on the team because you know that he is a stable player that will keep things running smoothly as long as he is on the ice. He is a tough, gritty skater with a wickedly high hockey IQ and talent that will almost always find the back of the net. The reason that Justus is a name to watch is because he has every quality a professional player needs. He is stable base for his team mates to follow in any situation, he can find the back of the net with no problem, and his physical game is out of this world. Keep track of Justus because he is definitely going very far in the sport! Good luck Justus with the Spartans and your future hockey career!
Austin is 6 ft 1 in, 200 lbs, and is from Saint Adolphe, Manitoba, Canada. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 57 games played, 136 goals against, 3229 minutes played, 1302 saves, 2.53 goals against average, .905 S%, 31 wins, 18 losses, 3 overtime losses, 2 shoot out losses, and 5 shut outs. Austin is draft eligible for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Austin is a great goaltender to watch because he is a solid and gritty goaltender who will toughen anything out until the very end. He gives 100% to the game and is a constant threat to opposing players. He is an extremely difficult goaltender to out smart and is definitely the next generation for NHL netminders. Lotz is constantly up front in the action and is always trying to play the biggest he can. He always has a constant eye on the puck and is fantastic with his pad movements. I can't wait to see where Lotz is drafted because I have been keeping an eye on his stats for a few seasons now and his improvements are off the charts. Every year he is constantly getting better in all aspects of the sport. With his rate of improvement, I can only imagine where we will see him in a few years. Definitely one of the best young goaltenders out there. Good luck Austin with the Silvertips and your future hockey career!
