Biscuits and Breezers

Hello and welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Usually this would be where I would introduce what leagues I would be giving you updates on, but that particular format isn't quite conforming as I hoped so I am going to switch things up a little bit. First off, I will only be reviewing the NHL and the EIHL (the other leagues will be mentioned so no worries over that). Next off, I will be including final game scores from the junior leagues WSHL, NA3HL, and MnJHL. Some recaps will be thrown in as well. I will still be doing my College Spotlight Players and following a few college programs. My usual interviews and team reviews will always be a constant!! I will be doing quite a bit of work with the Wenatchee Wild and the Wenatchee Wolves U18 teams this season so posts might not be as frequent as they have been in the past. I know this summer has been a period of transition but I think everything is in order, for now, so let's get this 2014-2015 season started!!!

There were quite a few junior games last night that kicked off the new season around the country. For example, the Southern Oregon Spartans and the Missoula Maulers went to battle in Medford, Oregon (after a broken sprinkler flooded the ice!) the Helena Bighorns proved once again why they are on top of the leader boards every season with a 10-0 win over the Glacier Nationals, and the Idaho Jr. Steelheads had a huge 14-0 win over the new Whitefish Wolverines. In their junior hockey debut, the Butte Cobras were defeated by the Seattle Totems but they played very well for their inaugural game. After having the chance to take a look at most of the rosters this season, I do have to say there is some incredible talent out there this year and NAHL/College/USHL teams are going to have a field day scouting all of these amazing players. Absolutely incredible this year. Many teams are rising in the ranks comparatively to last season, but the some of the junior hockey power houses are absolutely steam rolling. I am very thrilled to see what this season brings because, at the moment, I can tell it will be a very fierce, aggressive, yet passionate season. Here are some scores from 9/19/14:

Now moving on to NHL news, the league has been incredibly busy as of late. Buzzing with last minute finishing details before the pre-season starts, teams are putting the final touches on our beloved organizations. The Penguins have released their new 3rd and alternate jersey option which will be featured I believe 12 times this season, first introducing it during the series against Philly. If you have not seen it yet, take a look at the old 90's sweaters. It's a great retro throwback to the days back when Barrasso was in the crease, Jagr was rocking the mullet, and Lemieux was sitting as, basically, the King of Pittsburgh. As we all know, the Minnesota Wild have been trying to increase their chances of making another playoff appearance after an absolutely amazing run in last year's post season and one way they are handling that, would be stocking up between the pipes. That's correct, along with Josh Harding, Minnesota has signed Darcy Kuemper as well as signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a try-out contract. Every season, one player starts off the injured list and this year, that would be Flyer's Captain Claude Giroux. He will be out two weeks with a lower body injury. Drew Doughty of the LA Kings can also now join that list, that is surely to grow before the season officially starts, as he has sustained an upper body injury. Other than training camps and conditioning practices, there is no news to report on but just to let you all know.......2 Days until the first group of preseason games!!!!!!!

I feel that the EIHL is doing a phenomenal job at promoting ice hockey in England, Scotland, and Ireland and in the recent seasons, I have seen quite an influx of players from that area of the globe. Particularly Scots. They are great players, huge skaters with incredibly high hockey smarts, and it certainly is an untapped hockey market, in my opinion. Shifting our news overseas, Kyle Haines has been named captain of the Fife Flyers, Robert Farmer of the Nottingham Panthers is expected to be out 6 weeks due to a broken bone in his foot, Omar Pacha (playing for Hull) is out for 2 months with a broken arm, and Carl Lauzon and Yan Turcotte have been named assistant captains for Hull. This will definitely be a season to watch in the EIHL because the teams are very strong and the competition level has gone up at least 10 times. Great hockey in the UK area so make sure to catch up on it, if you can!

Thank you so much for staying with me through all of the shifting around and I can promise you that this will be one of, if not the best, years for Biscuits and Breezers! Thanks for reading another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Every blog will be filled with updated hockey news, player reviews, and much more. Until next time remember,  don't get your breezers in a bunch because hockey is always around the corner. Remember, it's always a great day for hockey and it's a lifestyle not just a sport!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
