Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Before the playoffs start around many leagues and things start getting hyped up here is the 99th regular blog! I can't believe we have made it to 99 already, thank you very much everyone you are the absolute best! 25,000 views will be coming up quickly as well! The news for today is a Canadiens prospect has been placed in a medically induced coma, Matt Stajan has been granted a leave of absence from the Flames, and an incredible 7 overtime championship state title. Starting off with Calgary. Flames' center Matt Stajan has been granted a leave of absence from Calgary after his newborn son, Emerson Stajan, passed away on March 3rd after childbirth. He and his wife Katie will have a private memorial service to mourn the loss of their son in a few days. My sincerest condolences to both Matt and Katie, and to their whole family during this rough and deeply saddening time. Rest in Peace Emerson and my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Stajan family. This is absolutely heart-wrenching and I hope that Matt and Katie are given more than enough support.

Tim Bozon was drafted to the Montreal Canadiens and has been playing with the Kootenay Ice/Kamloops Blazers in the WHL but now he has a bigger battle to face. Tim has been diagnosed with a bacterial meningitis known as Neisseria meningitis. He was recently placed in a medically induced coma and is listed as critical condition. This type of bacterial meningitis is highly contagious and reportedly Canadian officials have provided antibiotics to any player/coaching staff that could have possibly come in contact with the bacteria just a precaution to avoid a possible outbreak. His parents have flown over from Switzerland and are currently watching over him at a Saskatoon hospital. Best wishes to Tim and his family and hopefully he will pull out of this with no complications.

After 7 overtimes in a state hockey tournament in Ohio, Sylvania Northview and Cleveland St. Ignatius high schools have been named co-state champions. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after 3 periods of play and due to fatigue and potential endangerment of the players, officials decided to call the tie. There is no shooutout procedure in high school hockey so the decision was made mutually by the head coaches of both teams, school administrators, and the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association.) It is very impressive that these boys were able to last through as many overtimes as they did even though it did end in an eventual time. Round of applause to all of the beautys on both teams!

Now we have come to the "Players of Today" segment of our blog! For the NHL pick we have Colorado Avalanche forward Max Talbot. For the "Junior" pick we have Worcester State College forward Alex Dewitz. For the European pick we have San Diego Gulls defenseman Dennis Andersson.

Alex is 6 ft 0 in, 194 lbs, and is from Rochester/Oronoco, MN, USA. He wore the "A" for the Helena Bighorns in the 2011-2012 season. His stats for the 2013-2014 season so far are 8 goals in 24 games played, 5 assists, 13 TPs, .54 points per game, 56 PIMs, 2 power play goals, 1 short handed goal, and 1 game winning goal. Dewitz is one of the first college players I have reviewed so we will see how this goes! Alex is a very hard working and determined player and is some one youth players should look up to in my honest opinion. The reason I say this is because he has an incredible work ethic and he loves the sport so much you can see it every time he plays a game, every time he throws on his gear, and every time he is able to be involved in the sport that he loves. Alex is a great forward who knows how to find the back of the net and has a very high hockey IQ that allows him to lead his team mates in a very high manner. He has silky mitts, quick skates, great tape to tape passes and is always trying to improve his game to be one of the best players in his respective field. Make sure to check Alex and the rest of the Worcester State College team because they are a hard working squad who aren't afraid to put in the extra time to get the higher reward. Good luck Alex with the Lancers and your future hockey career!

Dennis is 6 ft 0 in, 179 lbs, and is from Angelholm, Sweden. In the 2012-2013 season, he had 4 goals in 36 games played, 12 assists, 16 TPs, and 25 PIMs. Andersson is one of those players that you know is strong and will go through anything to get the win. He isn't afraid to get gritty and tough to perform his best and he is the type of player that is confident every time he steps on the ice. I really like the way Dennis plays because he plays a big game and knows how to intimidate other opposing players during his shifts. He is constantly trying to help his team mates out in any way he can and is a supporting base for any team he plays on. Andersson has great puck control but even more so he is great at finding the puck, taking it from any player, and finding the back of the net. He has amazingly quick skates, great on-ice vision, and a drive that allows him to play through even the toughest of games unscathed. He isn't afraid to get physical once in a while and isn't afraid to work the boards either. If you ever get a chance to watch Dennis play, take it because he plays some fantastic hockey and always puts on a great "show." Since he aged out last season I am not sure where he will play this year but anyway, Good luck Dennis with your future hockey career!

Maxime is 5 ft 11 in, 190 lbs, and is from Lemoyne, Quebec, Canada. He was drafted 234th overall in the 8th round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009. Max is an incredible and enthusiastic hockey player who loves the sport with all of it's glory and is thrilled to be playing it each day. He as played with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and now Colorado. In the 2012-2013 season, he had 5 goals in 35 games played, 5 assists, 10 TPs, a +/- of 2, 23 PIMs, 1 shorthanded goal, 41 shots on goal, and an S% of 12.2. Talbot is a player who goes on the ice to help his team mates instead of being the main star. He gives support almost 100% of the time and isn't afraid to record more assists than goals. He is quick around the rink and fan favorite in every rink he plays in. It will be interesting to see how he helps out the Avalanche in the post season this year! Good luck Max with the Avalanche and your future NHL career!

Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
