Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to a special edition of Biscuits and Breezers! Earlier this month we passed the 25000 view mark and now it is time to celebrate!! Before I get to the fan appreciation and player review portion of our blog, I just would like to say a few things. First of all, I can't express enough my thanks to you all. I have received nothing but support since day 1 and it has been an incredible journey over 1 year and 10 almost 11 months. On the Biscuits and Breezers Facebook page, the family has grown to almost 900 now! To be honest when I first started this in May of 2012 I never could have imagined being at 25,000 so quickly (closer to 26,000 at the moment I am writing this.) The Biscuits and Breezers hockey family is the absolute best in the entire world and the people and players that make it up are even better! We have fans on every populated continent and in almost every country from the tip of Alaska and the western coast of California all the way across the world to Europe, the very most eastern side of Asia and the coasts of Australia. I put the 15,000 celebration blog out at the end of October and already we have shot up 10,000 views. I cannot think of any words in the English language that would perfectly fit my thanks to everyone for building up Biscuits and Breezers and constantly trying to help it succeed even farther. It has been quite an adventure filled with the usual ups and downs but as I look back on it I have met some incredible people that I hope to stay in contact with for a very long time and had experiences that as I look back on them bring a huge smile to my face. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!! Biscuits and Breezers is growing by leaps and bounds and I can't even begin to imagine where we will be in let's say 5 years. You guys are incredible!! The Biscuits and Breezers hockey family is the best, most supportive, group of beauties and gems on the entire planet that I have ever met and have the pleasure of talking with everyday. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!!!!!!! -S.H. Rauvola (Writer and Founder and Editor of Biscuits and Breezers) Maybe I will stop using my pen name sometime soon but for the moment it is S.H. Rauvola!

Player Reviews!!:

When I first started doing these Celebratory Blogs I usually had 3 or 4 player reviews thrown in here because the players I work with are absolutely phenomenal and I want people to see what great players they are and I have 6 for you this time with 2 additional slots for 2 coaches! I love writing these player reviews and I wish I could write more than I am physically possible to do because it lets the world see these incredibly talented players and they get the spotlight that they deserve. Without any further delays, the players for you today are San Diego Gulls defenseman Felix Kronwall, Marquette Royales forward Tanner Doty, Missoula Maulers forward Corey Schafer, Missoula Maulers goaltender Sebastian Gronborg, Gillette Wild goaltender Sean Kelley, and Robert Morris University - Springfield forward David Heeps. As for the coaches we have Billings Bulls assistant coach Joseph Deptula and Robert Morris University - Springfield Head Coach Jeff Wear.

Starting off with defenseman Felix Kronwall! Felix is 6 ft 6 in, 214 lbs, and is from Stockholm, Sweden. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 5 goals in 42 games played, 9 assists, 14 TPs, and 32 PIMs. Kronwall is the type of defenseman every team needs because he is aggressive, knows how to stand his ground, and will do whatever it takes to make sure his team can get the win each night. Felix is a big player with a very large frame and he makes sure to use that to his advantage on each shift. As I said before he is a very aggressive defenseman, in terms of junior players, and does not shy away from working the boards. Personally I think he is one of the best kinds of blue liners out there just for the reason that even though he doesn't have the most points on the team, he is out there every night working as hard as he can and is driven to be the best player in his position. I love his style of play because it is very classic and takes back to hockey's roots. He is very physical on plays and that is fantastic because every roster needs at least one blue liner that isn't afraid to rough people up a little bit or get aggressive for possession of the puck. You should recognize his style of play because it is an almost identical to that of his uncle's; Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall. Felix has so much potential to go far in hockey and I certainly hope he does because his talents will be majorly useful to any team he signs with. He is very intimidating to opposing players and they know that if Felix Kronwall is on the ice they might as well keep the puck in their own zone because there is absolutely almost no way they are getting the biscuit past him. I can't wait to see where Felix goes in the future because I know that he has a long and prosperous career ahead of him. Good luck Felix!

Corey is 5 ft 9 in, 172 lbs, and is from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 12 goals in 26 games played, 20 assists, 32 TPs, and 64 PIMs. Where to begin with Schafer? This forward is absolutely incredible and is one of the best hockey players you will ever see out on the ice. He has the qualities that every team is looking for and more. He is gritty, he is beyond talented, he can get through a scrap with no problem, and he knows his place on the ice. I have seen him play for 3 seasons now and every year he gets progressively better even in areas that need almost no improvement. He ultimately embodies the junior lifestyle and is always the biggest beauty out on the ice. You can almost always see Schafer throwing chirps around during games but he always has a quick, witty response to follow aided by a smile to throw off opposing players. Corey is a phenomenal player for two reasons. This first one being that he is very well rounded at both ends of the ice and will fill in the holes in plays that his team mates leave behind. If the defenseman are lacking he will try to defend the puck more and stick closer to his goalie and if the forwards are slipping up he will step up his puck domination and start aggressively attacking the rival tendy with shots on net. Corey always plays with his heart on the ice and is driven to get the win every time. He already has one season with the NA in the books and I can confidently say I most definitely see more upper level hockey in his future career. He is a fighter in more ways than one and will always be one of the top ranked players on my charts. He is a fighter in the traditional sense, he fights through ice time to be at the top of his game, and he will always fight no matter what to be the top player in his position. Keep an eye out for Corey because he is sure to make an impact on hockey in the near future. Good luck Corey!

Sean is 5 ft 10 in, 180 lbs, and is from Gillette, Wyoming, USA. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 33 games played, 30 games started, 1877:05 minutes played, 19 wins, 11 loses, 6 shut outs, 74 goals against, 2.37 goals against average, 959 saves, and a .928 save percentage. When you think about goaltenders you want one that is tough, aggressive, knowledgeable, and one that will go through anything to help his team mates out. Well that goaltender would be Gillette Wild tendy Sean Kelley. This particular goaltender is incredibly strong between the pipes and is focused on the plays going on outside the crease at all times. I am a huge fan of the way he plays because he isn't afraid to push players out of the way if they are blocking his view and he exudes confidence every time he steps on the ice. He is very talented with his pads and blocker and always seems to be one step ahead of everyone else. Kelley has a constant watch on the biscuit at all times and is always tracking it. In my opinion, goaltenders need to be smart, agile, a tad bit aggressive, and always on the look out for potential scoring opportunities in case a correction needs to be made and that is exactly how Sean plays his game. Vittori and Kruckenberg were the major goaltending stars of Gillette last season but I feel as if Sean has effortlessly picked up where they had left off. He is a strong building base for the team and is supporting all of the boys as much as can. In my opinion,  Kelley has a very bright future ahead of him, especially in college hockey, because he is the type of goaltender teams are looking for. Good luck next season Sean!

Tanner is 6 ft 0 in, 160 lbs, and is from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA. In the 2013-2014 season (Between Great Falls and Marquette) he had 7 goals in 32 games played, 9 assists, 16 TPs, a +/- of -2, 76 PIMs, 1 power play assist, and 1 game winning goal. Doty is the type of forward that yes has an extreme physical side but he never misses an opportunity with the puck. He is very skilled with  puck domination and has a nasty check that players should definitely take account of ahead of game time. I have seen Doty play a couple of times and every time I have been impressed for many reasons but for one reason in specific; he is the type of player that is working as hard as he can each shift. Yes he is positioned as a forward, but that does not limit what he can accomplish. He is very good at standing in his place and keeping a solid wall for his zone but I believe his real forte is in puck movement and being a driving force for the team. His physicality is top notch and he is not afraid to plow through his opponents. Tanner is a big force out on the ice and you know that if you are on the ice with him, you are going to have a tough time keeping the puck out of your zone. He is a player a team would be looking for because he is an incredibly strong forward who is talented both in the physical and intimidating aspects of the sport but also in stick handling, moving the biscuit between players, and communicating well with the boys on his team to make sure everything that needs to get done does. I am looking forward to see which team Tanner ends up on next because he is sure to flourish. Good luck Tanner!

David is 6 ft 1 in, shoots right, and is from Arlington, Texas. Heeps plays for the Robert Morris University - Springfield Eagles as a right wing and is fantastically talented. In the 2013-2014, he had 16 goals in 18 games played, 5 assists, 21 TPs, 2 power play goals, and 8 PIMs. David is one of the best players you will find out there because he puts tons of work and time into improving his game. You can tell he wants to be the best player out there because it certainly shows. Instead of taking games lightly, Heeps is out there working as hard as he can every time and learning from each game he plays in. Even though he is a freshman, he already has the skills and talent of a junior at least. His determination is out of this world and his work ethic is absolutely fantastic. If I was going to put together a team I would without a doubt make sure David was on roster because he is the type of guy every team needs no matter what. He is a stable player that is a backbone for his team mates and is willing to do anything to pull his team ahead. He is incredibly strong with stick handling, puck movement, and the just the entire movement of the sport. In my mind, he would make a great coach just for the fact that he understands the game so intensely. I am eagerly awaiting to see how his college career goes as he move up because it will absolutely sky rocket. Make sure you keep an eye out on David because he is one of the players that will certainly excel in college hockey. Good luck David!

Sebastian is 5 ft 9 in, 165 lbs, and is from Nykoping, Sweden. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 13 games played, 13 games started, 8 wins, 4 losses, 1 OT loss, 781:26 minutes played, 2 shut outs, 30 goals against, 2.30 goals against average, 330 saves, and a .917 save percentage. If you have been with me for the 2013-2014 or before you would know that I have done a lot of coverage over Sebastian. Well that is for one reason. Out of all the junior goaltenders and players I have worked with Sebastian is one of the ones who I know for a fact is going to make it pro. He is absolutely one of the most amazing players on the ice and has the guts to do things others won't. He takes goaltending to a whole other level and is pushing his way into the professional levels of hockey. When he is in the cage he is focused on everything going on around him, he is keeping his eye on the puck at all times, and more importantly he is taking in how every player plays their game to adjust his game in order to make the correct saves. He is an incredibly powerful presence in the rink and plays just the same way. He exudes confidence which is fantastic because the stronger your goaltender is the stronger your team and statistics will be. In my opinion, I have no doubts in my mind that we will see Gronborg signing a pro contract in the near future. His style of play is out of this world and he is strong in basically every area a goaltender can be. He has the guts to push and test boundaries that other players wouldn't, he is insanely intelligent about the game, he conducts himself with ease on and off the ice, and is constantly adding or changing his game in order to keep up on the latest styles of the goaltending. Sebastian is driven to achieve his dreams and at this rate he is going he will surpass them in no time. Everyone always talks about who the next Crosby will be, and in my honest opinion, Gronborg is on a very fast track to becoming the next generation of top goaltenders such as Jonathan Quick or Ben Scrivens. Best of luck with college hockey Sebastian!

Now for the coaches portion, I will combine the two into one paragraph just for the fact that it won't be entirely the same as the player reviews. Jeff Wear is the head coach of the Robert Morris University - Springfield Eagles. He has coached in the ACHA for quite a while now (4 seasons with Lindenwood University and now two with RMU-S) and in my opinion, is one of the best coaches out there. He previously played college hockey at Lindenwood University and the University of Missouri - St. Louis. I very much appreciate his coaching style because he brings out the best playing qualities in each of his players and combines them all to make an incredibly solid and strong base for the roster. He makes sure that each of his players are playing at the top of their game and putting in as much effort as they can. He fully supports each member of his team and is constantly trying to push them forward in their game. Wear is the type of coach who is intended on showing the best of his players while having them compete at the absolute highest level they can. Next up, Joe Deptula. After playing 4 years of juniors, Deptula went on to play 4 years of college hockey at Western New England University. For 2 years of his college career he serves as Assistant captain. Since joining the Billings Bulls organization, Assistant Coach Deptula has brought the team up immensely. He pushes his players to work harder, skate faster, and play better than they ever had in the past. He is the type of coach who is a strong base for his players to rely on yet at the same time he is one of the main forces pushing them forward. I have watched the Bulls for quite some time now and I definitely believe that they are playing at a level far higher than in previous seasons. When every one of his players step on the ice, it becomes apparent that he has each one of them set on a personalized fast track aimed at excelling their games and proving to upper level teams why they belong on their roster. Best of luck to both coaches in their future careers!

Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
