Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this episode of Biscuits and Breezers we will be talking about the Kings vs. Coyotes series and the Ducks signing Swedish goalie Viktor Fasth. Starting off with the Kings vs. Coyotes series. This series has defintely taken an unexpected and dramatic turn! Shutting out the Kings for the first time and stopping the Kings' post season roll.  Mike Smith defintely took his nerves and used them against the Kings to make him stronger and more on focus making 36 saves and having a save percentage, of course, of 1.000. Winning this game doesn't put the Coyotes in an automatic safe zone. They are still hanging on for dear life. The Kings defintely got quite a shock though. The star player in this game was Coyotes' Canadian captain Shane Doan. Shane's first and second period goals were the only in the game and that proves why he was chosen for Captain. Getting a goal past Jonathan Quick certainly is a feat of strategy and strength. Doan's power play goal in the first period was at 14:19 and was assisted by Canadian left wing Ray Whitney. The final goal was scored in the second period 11:10 by star player Shane Doan assisted by Canadian center Antoine Vermette. It is going to take more than a few good plays to beat the Kings, but all in all the Coyotes still have a fighting chance to win this, come from behind, and go to the Stanley Cup finals and faceoff against the Eastern Conference victors! For the first time in franchise history! This is exactly why I love hockey. It can turn on a dime and it is always surprising. Do you think the Coyotes will come from behind and win it or will the Kings beat them in Game 5 on May 22nd in Glendale, Arizona at Jobing.com Arena. Let me know in the comments below!
Next thing we are going to talk about is the new contract signing with the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks signed a one million, one year contract with Swedish goalie Viktor Fasth. Playing with the AIK Elitserien Stockholm and Vaxjo Lakers teams, Viktor had 46 games played, 2,683 minutes played, 2.12 goals against average, 0.934 save percentage, 5 shut outs, 1 assist, and 4 PIMs. He is 6ft. 0in, 192lbs, and is from Kalix, Sweden. He also has silver medal with Team Sweden in the IIHF World Hockey Junior Championships. Good Luck in your first NHL year with the Ducks Viktor and good luck with your future hockey career.
Now we move on to the "Players of Today". Today for the European pick we have CSKA Moskva KHL player Nikolai Prokhorkin. For the NHL prospect, we have QMJHL Quebec Remparts player Mikhail Grigorenko, and for the NHL player we have Russian left wing and captain for the Washingotn Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin.

Starting off with the European pick. Nikolai is 6ft. 2in, 183lbs, and is from Chelyabinsk, Russia. He s winger playing for CSKA Moskva in KHL ever since the 2010-2011 season. in the 2011-2012 season, Nikolai had 1 goal in15 games played, 1 assist, 2 TPs, and 4 PIMs, In the playoffs, he had 0 goals in 4 games played, 1 assist, 1 TP, and 2 PIMs.  Nikolai is also an NHL prospect for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. It is unclear where Nikolai is going for the 2012-2013 season. Nikolai's best year was his rookie year in 2010-2011. He had 23 goals in 46 games played, 17 assists, 40 TPs, and 42 PIMs. Nikolai is a great skater who can reach the puck and pass it on in the right moment. Good luck Nikolai in the draft and in your future hockey career!

Next, we move onto the NHL Prospect. Mikhail is 6ft. 2in, 200lbs, and is from Khabarovsk, Russia. He is a center for the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL and in the 2011-2012 season he had 40 goals in 59 games played, 45 assists, 85 TPs, and 12 PIMs. In the playoffs this year , Mikhail had 3 goals in 11 games played, 7 assists, 10 TPs, and 4 PIMs. Being an NHL Prospect, Grigorenko is expected to go to the Montreal Canadiens. He has a silver medal from the 2012 World Junior championships for Russia, and has a bronze medal from the IIHF World U18 Championships. He is a very contolled center who has great on-ice vision and is a player who can get his twig and tape around the biscuit and go top shelf. Good luck Mikhail in the NHL draft and in your future hockey career!

Last but not least, we have Alexander Ovechkin. He is 6ft. 3in, 230lbs, and is from Moscow, Russia. He is Captain and left wing for the Washington Capitals who played for Team Russia many times in the Olympics and for Dynamo Moscow when he was still young in Russia. In the 2011-2012 season, Alex had 38 goals in 78 games played, 27 assists, 65 TPs, a +/- of -8, 26 PIMs, 13 power play goals, 0 shorthanded goals, 3 game winning goals, 303 shots on goal, and a S% of 12.5. His nicknames are Ovie and Alexander the Great. Ovie helped claim the gold for Russia in the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championships along with the help of fellow team mate Alexander Semin and  Pittsburgh Penguin star Evgeni Malkin to claim Russia the No. 1 seed in the 2014 winter Olympics. His skating is flawless at times and he has impeccable on-ice vision. He can spot an open hole in a play, patch it, and get it the puck between the pipes in a matter of seconds. Good Luck Alex in your future NHL career and in your further hockey career!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
