Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog, we will be taking about the Devils vs. Rangers series and a little Pens news. Starting off with the Devils vs. Rangers series. Now the series is tied at 1-1 and the Rangers are starting to feel anxious. Closing in on the Rangers, the Devils took Game 2 3-2 and left the Rangers eating puck dust and getting a face wash. The game started out where it ended with the Devils scoring and Russian winger Ilya Kovalchuk shoot a power play goal past Henrik Lundqvist at 13:39 assisted by Czech defenseman Marek Zidlicky and American captain and left wing Zach Parise. This was the only goal made in the first period. In the next next period, the Rangers gained control of the game by scoring two genos. In the second period, Canadian defenseman and Staal brother, Marc Staal fired one past Brodeur at 2:23 and started the momentum the Rangers needed to claim Game 2. This momentum didn't carry past 12:19 though. It was assisted by Canadian center and alternate captain Brad Richards and Canadian defenseman Dan Girardi on another power play. The second goal for the Rangers was scored by Boston College rookie and American left wing Chris Kreider on a power play at 12:19 assisted by Swedish defenseman Anton Stralman and Russian center Artem Anisimov. The Devils got their rhythm back from Devils' center Ryan Carter's 18:09 goal assisted by known gritty Canadian defenseman Bryce Salvador and Canadian right wing Steve Bernier. The final goal of the game was scored in the third period by Devils' Canadian right wing David Clarkson at 2:31 and apples were given to Canadian center Adam Henrique and another making two apples credited to Canadian defenseman Bryce Salvador. Do you think that the Devils are going to make the Finals or are the Rangers going to sneak from behind and drag the Finals in their direction? Tell me in the comments below! Good job Devils for tying up loose ends and getting all the pylons off the ice to make way for the snipers! We will find out who reigns supreme on May 18th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Next off, we move onto a little Pittsburgh Penguins news. As all you Pens fans out there know, Geno is in the running to go on the cover of NHL13! Right now he is going up against Scott Hartnell of the Philadelphia Flyers. We need to all vote for Malkin so he can go into the "semi-finals" of the cover contest. Many of the Penguin players and almost of the coaches and staff have voted, so in turn we need to do our part and rack up as many points as we can so Geno can get on the cover! Currently, Hatnell's NHL cover rating is 83 and Evgeni's rating is 93. That is way to close for me! So lets all pull together and vote for Geno! Let's go Malkin!

Now, we move onto the "Players of Today". For the European pick we have Finnish Jokerit U20 Jr. A SM-liiga goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. For the Junior pick we have the OHL Belleville Bulls goaltender Charlie Graham. Finally we have the NHL pick going to Boston Bruins right wing Tyler Seguin.

First off we have the European pick. Joonas is 6ft 2in, 168 lbs, and is from Pori, Finland. Playing in the 2011-2012 season with the Jokerit U20 Jr. A SM-liiga team, Joonas has 2.04 goals against average, 38 games played, and a save percentage of .920.  Joonas is also a 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect. In the playoffs during this season, Joonas had a save percentage of .926, 1.77 goals against average, and 4 games played. Joonas is a very good goalie who can cover the crease well and has great butterflies. It is unclear where he is signed for the 2012-2013 season. Good luck Joonas in your future hockey career and in the NHL Draft!

Now, we have the Junior pick. Charlie is 5ft 10in, 160lbs, and is from Toronto, Ontario,Canada.  He currently plays goaltender for the Belleville Bulls of the OHL and the 2011-2012 season was his first with the Bulls. In the regular season, he had 12 games played, 41 goals against, 623 minutes, 275 saves, 3.95 GAA, .870 save percentage, 2 wins, 7 loses, 0 overtime loses, 0 shootout losses, 3 ties, and 0 shutouts. It is unclear where he is going for the 2012-2013 season, but most likely it will be with the Bulls. Charlie can really cover up the net and take the blows. Good luck Chalie in your future hockey career and goaltending!

Last we have the NHL pick. Tyler Seguin is a 6ft 1in, 196lb right wing for the Boston Bruins from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He got drafted for the Bruins 2nd overall and 2010 and won the Stanley Cup in 2011. He claimed the gold for Ontario in the 2009 British Columbia World U-17 Hockey Challenge and won another gold for Canada in the 2009 Slovakia Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. In the 2011-2012 season with the Bruins, Tyler had 29 goals in 81 games played, 38 assists, 67 TPs, a +/- of 34, 30 PIMs, 5 power play goals, 0 shorthanded goals, 7 game winning goals, 242 shots on goal, and a shot percentage of 12.0. He played for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL before coming to Boston. His nickname is Segs or Segsy. He is a very good right wing and has great on ice vision. Good luck Tyler with the Bruins and your further NHL career!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
