Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this episode of we will be discussing the Capitals vs. Rangers series finale with the Capitals being eliminated and the start of the Kings vs. Coyotes series. Starting off with the Capitals vs. Rangers finale. What a stressful game that was! Rangers taking it all with a final score of 2-1, and leaving the Capitals in the dust, they faceoff against the Devils on May 14th for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. In the first period, the Rangers scored a goal from Canadian center and alternate captain Brad Richards at 1:32 assisted by Swedish left winger Carl Hagelin and Canadian defenseman Michael Del Zotto. There was no scoring in the second period but Michael Del Zotto picked up the pace for the Rangers in the third period at 10:05 assisted by the Swedish left winger Carl Hagelin once again and the Slovak right winger Marian Gaborik. To play it fair, Henrik Lundqvist gave a goal to Czech defenseman Roman Hamrlik at 10:43 in the third assisted by Canadian center Brooks Laich and Canadian left wing Jason Chimera. Winning at home in Madison Square Gardens must have been a great feeling because they have now secured the final spot in the Eatern Conference finals and the last spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. Great job Rangers, good luck in the Finals, and good job Capitals for making it this far! Maybe next year!

Now,we move onto the Kings vs. Coyotes series. Sweeping the Coyotes 4-2, the Kings are continuing on with their winning streak after leaving the Blues eating puck dust and getting a face wash with the Kings' Game 1 sweep. The Kings had their first Stanley Cup Finals goal at 3:53 in the first period from Slovene center and alternate captain Anze Kopitar assisted by Captain and right wing Dustin Brown and Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty. Shocked by this earth shaking event, the Coyotes powered back with getting a goal past quick but not quick enough,  goaltender Jonathan Quick from Coyotes' Canadian defenseman Derek Morris at 13:26 assisted by Canadian center Daymond Langkow. Having a rippling effect, the Kings scored once again in the second period from Canadian left wing Dwight King at 8:02 assisted by Canadian center Mike Richards and American right wing Trevor Lewis. Proving to be their second, and last goal of the game, Danish right wing Mikkel Bodker forced one last goal from the Coyotes at 18:05 in the second period assisted by Canadian right wing and Captain Shane Doan and Canadian defenseman Derek Morris. As expected, the Kings went full steam ahead and busted out two goals against Coyotes' goaltender Mike Smith. The Kings had a goal from Canadian captain Dustin Brown at 2:11 assisted from Russian defenseman Slava Voynov and Canadian right winger Justin Williams. Another geno from Canadian left wing Dwight King at 19:12 assisted again by American right wing Trevor Lewis and Canadian center Jarret Stoll. Good job Kings for putting your best foot first and good luck to the Coyotes in advancing in the following games!

Next, we move onto, the "Players of Today". Today we have Missoula Maulers backup goalie Same Bernard for our goalie pick, for the European and NHL Prospect we have Olli Maatta from the London Knights of the OHL and Suomi U20 Finland2, finally for the NHL pick we have Washington Capitals Swedish center Nicklas Backstrom

Starting off with the goalie pick we have 6ft. 4in, 175lb. backup goalie from Lafayette, Colorado, USA,Sam Bernard from the Missoula Maulers. Although Sam doesn't play very often, when he does he never takes his eye off the puck and covers the net very well. It is unclear where Sam is headed for the 2012-2013 season. I picked Sam because I think he needs to be noticed a little bit more and maybe played more. Lets all wish him good luck and give him warm wishes that hopefully will lead him in between the pipes. Good luck Sam and best wishes on your goaltending career!

Secondly, we have Finnish defenseman Olli Maatta. He is 6ft 2 in, 198lbs, and is from Jyvaskyla, Finland. Olli is currently playing his first year in North America with the OHL's London Knights. During this time Olli has 5 goals in 58 games played, 27 assists, 32 TPs, and 25 PIMs. It is unsure where Olli is going for the 2012-2013 season. He is also an NHL prospect player expected to go to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Olli is a great defenseman with great frame, hockey sense, he positions himself well and is not a big mucker. He will only get physical enough to steal the puck and to doesn't go for the big hits. Good luck Olli in the NHL draft and with your future hockey career!

Last, but not least, we have Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom. Nicklas is 6ft 1in, 210lbs, and is from Gavle, Sweden. Playing with the Capitals in 2011-2012, Nicklas has 14 goals in 42 games played, 30 assits, 44 TPs, a +/- of -4, and has 24 PIMs. He played for the Brynas IF J20 team in Sweden and his nickname is Backis referring to his last name and Nicky as a pet name. Sorry to see him hurt and penalized earlier this year, but he is roaring and ready for next season. Good luck Nicklas in your further NHL career, and good luck in your hockey choices!

Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
