Cody Janzen:
Interview

Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! I was able to catch up with goaltender Cody Janzen at a skate with the players event on the 14th and got a very in-depth interview about the up and coming WSHL playoffs and being on a team with 3 tendys. I love talking with Janzen because he gives great responses and gives a very descriptive look into the life of a goaltender. I reviewed Cody last week in one of the regular blogs as one of the "Players of Today" and now he is back for you to meet him one more time.

Cody is a phenomenal goaltender whose strengths come from a will to push forward and a drive to succeed. It is unbelievable at what he can accomplish because no matter how he performs in net that night, Cody is already looking forward to the next game he is put in. He has great skills on the ice such as a high hockey IQ, attentive to everyone on the ice, knows when and when not to trust his pipes, and a great focus on everything going on around him. In my opinion, I hope that we see Janzen in the NAHL or higher next year because that is in no doubt where he needs to be. He brings a special skill set to the ice and is always trying to motivate the guys to do better. I think he has grown very much in the cage since last season and it is very reassuring to watch him constantly improve. The NAHL would suit him well due to the fact that he has quick reflexes and a sharp eye. Janzen is one of those goaltenders that tries to show his best at all times, and when the going gets tough, he proves why he should be there. Now on to the interview!

Biscuits: What are you most looking forward to for the end of the season?
Janzen: Hopefully pulling it together and coming through strong at the finish. Maybe catch up to Ogden and get as many points as possible.
Biscuits: Where do you see yourself next season?
Janzen: I have no clue yet, we'll see how this season goes and worry about this one right now.
Biscuits: How has the team been working out?
Janzen: I mean we're getting better. We've been jelling together a lot better. We've had a couple of good weeks of practice we just have to put it into games every night.
Biscuits: Considering you're being put in the cage more often, how do you feel about your position on the team?
Janzen: Ya I try to set good leadership out there and try to set a good ground for the guys to build off, be tough in the net every night, be tough to beat.
Biscuits: Do you see yourself continuing with another season for Maulers or moving on?
Janzen: I mean I hope to move on,  I love Missoula and everyone has been great to me here, but I just hope to move up as high as possible on the junior level while I still can.
Biscuits: Who have been the toughest contenders so far?
Janzen: Aw I mean you just have to give those to your Idahos, teams like that, all the teams in front of us are good teams. We have got the potential to beat any team in this league when we want to.
Biscuits: Do you guys see yourselves in a playoff spot realistically?
Janzen: Ya I mean we just have to continue strong, I mean Seattle is not too far behind us, but if we keep going, keep these winning games, and keep grinding it out we should be good. I mean even if we do end up playing Idaho, we have played some good games, they're a beatable team, we have a good team.
Biscuits: How has it worked out having to split the net time?
Janzen: I mean it's hard to get into a rhythm. It's alright, I still try to be the starter of this team and do a good job when I'm in the net.
Biscuits: Do you see yourself as the lead goaltender?
Janzen: We're all equals, it's whoever is playing better, whoever's getting the wins, making the saves. That's the best they're going to go with at the beginning of the night.
Biscuits: How do you think they put the roster together this year?
Janzen: We've got a young, we've got a young roster. We're young. we've got potential it's just going to take some more building. We have more time to improve, everyone just has to put the effort in and we can be a solid contender every night.
Biscuits: What do you think about the series coming up against the Southern Oregon Spartans?
Janzen: Those are always crazy games. In Southern Oregon they have a pretty rowdy house there, I mean it's tough games. They lucky and swept us three games. It will be good to play against old buddies, Jason Henry, and shut him down a couple of more times.
Biscuits: Do you and the boys see yourselves as batting down for a playoff run or do you think you are set to go?
Janzen: I mean we are still getting ready, we're still getting ready for the playoffs here, we've just gotta keep working at it, keep grueling over this last spot, and get ourselves ready to go. We're going to go all guns firing into the playoffs.
Biscuits: Who would be your favorite team mate on the team?
Janzen: I would have to go with my room mate Tyler Zandhuisen. I lived with him last year he is a beauty.
Biscuits: Do you feel that the Maulers organization are a good team to go into to move up or do you feel like it is more of a stable team while you are looking for other options?
Janzen: I mean it's a great place to play, it's awesome with the fans, it's always a great atmosphere, it's a good program, Marcus is doing a good job moving the players on. You have to continue with that, I mean there have been some good players coming out of this organization.

Thank you for the interview Cody! If you ever have the chance to take a look at Janzen definitely take it! Make sure to check he and the Maulers out as they look to gain a playoff spot. Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
