Biscuits and Breezers:
Scandinavian Hockey Consulting Interview

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! I recently had the great opportunity to chat with Co-Owner/Consultant Daniel Ljung and  Swedish Regional scout Pelle Bergsten. They are a great company for players looking to come to North America to play as well as give a chance to players and fit them with the necessities to succeed. They have not only helped hopeful players but they have helped me as well by promoting Biscuits and Breezers. First I will have Ljung's interview then Bergsten. I hope you all enjoy this and make sure to check out their website www.scandhock.com and if you are a player in need of help definitely contact them! They are a great company to work with!

   Daniel Ljung's Interview:

1. What is your favorite part of the job?

Ljung: To interact with players and their families and see them grow and succeed in a foreign environment

2. Do you enjoy traveling around to the different teams and leagues?

Ljung: Yes, it is part of why we are doing this

3. Have you had any memorable experiences with Scandinavian Hockey Consulting? If so what is your favorite?

Ljung: Anytime a player tells me he had the time of his life and can move on his career

4. Are you happy with all the attention ScanHock is getting?

Ljung: We do not strive to get attention. The most important part is our players getting where they need to be

5. What is the most stressful part of the job?

Ljung: If you pay attention to detail from day one it will not be as much stress as far as the players goes. However, it can be stressful to manage all the different tasks that come with running a company.

Thank you very much Daniel! It was a pleasure to have an interview with you! Next interview is with Pelle Bergsten!

Pelle Bergsten's Interview:

1. As a regional scout, what qualities jump out at you in players?

Bergsten: First the passion for hockey, it is important. It's also important if the player likes and wants to compete, he shall not "just" be there. It is also important to find out what kind of person the player is. You can listen to other people's opinion about the player, but you should always make your own assessment and believe in it. "Like who you like"

2. What is the most enjoyable part of a scout's job?

Bergsten: I like the game, so enjoy watching hockey and especially junior hockey, it's one of the benefits. The second, but perhaps most enjoyable, is that you get the chance to help young players to something that is their dream. Then follow their journey and see their progress and joy. You get to know them quite well and rejoice with them. Their "success" is our success.

3.What would you say is the most important part of CHS?

Bergsten: College Hockey Sweden and above all CHS Camp is for players to get chances to try out what it's like to train and play for coaches from the U.S. junior leagues and college/university, such as USHL, NCAA, ACHA, NAHL, AJHL, and WSHL to name a few. Of course, they also get a chance to ask any questions they have and create many new contacts.

4. Why would you recommend a player to take part in College Hockey Sweden?

Bergsten: Part of the answer I have already given in question 3, but would like to add that the quality at CHS Camp is very high. There are players from J20 Super Elite, Elite J20 and J18 Elit, and also players who are already in the U.S. and play and go to college/university. They are home for the summer and is of course taking part at the camp and share their experiences. There are also players from other countries, this year from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Slovenia, and the United States, so the exchange is huge and as I said, it is high quality throughout the whole camp.

5. Is College Hockey Sweden a more rewarding experience than just simply trying to attend camps on a player's own time frame?

Bergsten: There are none, or at least not many camps to choose from for players of J18 and J20. But the main reason to come to CHS Camp is that you want something with your hockey and also with your education. At CHS Camp you will meet the highest quality of players but most of all coaches and all focus is on hockey. There is no Camp with this high quality in Sweden. Scandinavian Hockey Consulting has certainly succeeded.

Thank you very much for the interview Pelle! It was great to get a scout's perspective on the internal workings of a highly successful player program!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
