There was quite a bit of news in the NHL these past two weeks. To start off the news, unfortunately a dynasty in the professional hockey world has come to a close. After moving from his long time New Jersey family to the great city of St. Louis, Martin Brodeur has officially announced his retirement. His name has been heard in almost every hockey house and his presence on the ice has been influential to an incredible amount of current players no matter the position. With 22 seasons in the NHL, Brodeur will go down in professional hockey history as one of the greatest netminders to play in the sport. He will also continue to influence the game as he is taking up a GM advisor position with the St. Louis Blues.

As usual we will begin with the injuries list. The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed Jeremy Morin on IR after an accelerated heart rate scare. After having a rapid heart beat that would not slow down, Morin has been placed on the injured reserve list as a precaution while he will undergo further testing. Colorado will have to shift around a few skaters after losing defenseman Erik Johnson for 3-8 weeks after he sustained a knee injury. Morin was not the last of the skaters the Jackets would lose seeing as goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will be out 4-6 weeks with a groin injury. Toronto's captain, Dion Phaneuf, has been classified as week to week after a suspected re-injury to his hand, Rangers goalie, Henrik Lundqvist has been placed as day to day after he took a puck to the neck in the game against the Hurricanes which resulted in a sprained blood vessel, and the St. Louis Blues will lose Kevin Shattenkirk seeing as he will have to undergo abdominal surgery within the week. After having his surgery, Shattenkirk will be classified as week to week. A piece of good news at the moment would be that the Nashville Predators were set to finally have their star goaltender return. After being out due to a knee injury, Pekka Rinne had an earlier return than was previously expected and played in last week's game.

There have been some fines and suspensions over the past two weeks, and to start off, Zac Rinaldo received an eight game suspension from the hit he delivered on Kris Letang. Rinaldo waived off the possibility of having an in-person hearing due to his vacation in the Caribbean and received the consequences of hitting  Letang from behind and causing his face to smack into the glass via telephone. Diving embellishment fines have become quite prevalent  around the league since the new rule was introduced at the beginning of the season. Two players were fined for embellishment last week and they are P.K. Subban from the Montreal Canadiens and Cal Clutterbuck from the New York Islanders. Each skater fined for diving will have to pay $2,000 and $1,000 extra for each case and it caps out at $5,000 for the fifth offense forward.

Now we have come to the "Players of Today" segment of this article! For the Junior pick we have Long Beach Bombers goaltender Dennis Tschudi. For the Goaltender pick we have Barrie Colts netminder Mackenzie Blackwood. For the European pick we have HV71 forward Filip Ahl.

Mackenzie is 6 ft 4 in, 215 lbs, and is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 23 wins in 45 games played, 15 losses, 1 overtime loss, 1 shoot out loss, 1 shut out, 2.98 GAA, .902 save percentage, 2497 minutes played, and 1142 saves. Blackwood is quickly becoming one of the best goaltending prospects for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and for reasons not commonly seen within all netminders. When you first view Mackenzie in games, the initial thing that strikes you is the great coverage he has within the cage. Some goalies tend to favor one side of the net over the other, but with Blackwood, he has fantastic reach to all corners as well as great pad positioning throughout the crease. It is certainly very obvious that Mackenzie understands how to work proficiently between the pipes as well as the ice in front of the net. Another great feature that Blackwood has shown within his ice time is his speed and reaction time. He is always quick to respond to imminent plays or opposing players. As Mackenzie continues to move forward with his hockey career, he will have one "advantage" going for him and that would be his ability to conform to how his team needs him to play as well as his ability to constantly want to improve. Blackwood definitely plays a fantastic style of game and will be a phenomenal netminder for any NHL team to pick up if they are looking to rebuild their goaltending department with skaters who are bringing in great amounts of game intelligence and ambition. It will be very interesting to see who gives Mackenzie his draft jersey in Florida because it is very evident that he has a prosperous career ahead of him. Good luck Mackenzie with the Barrie Colts, the NHL Draft, and your future hockey career!

Dennis is 6 ft 3, 186 lbs, and is from Oslo, Norway. In the 2013-2014 season, Tschudi had 2.46 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 22 games played. Playing with the Bombers, Dennis has shown what the bright goaltender he is as well as the many great attributions he brings to any team he is signed with. Tschudi is the type of netminder that goes into games with a strategy and opposing skaters pepper with shots because it's a great challenge and Tschudi is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Dennis has proven that he is a very strong goaltender, but he is also the netminder that doesn't not have to show it every night for people to see this fact. He has quite the intimidating sense about him, and on the ice, you automatically know he is one of the biggest challenges you will face as soon as you get down to his end of the rink. Dennis, in my opinion, seems to be the player that will go his own direction at times but will always maintain his loyalty to the team as well as have the team's needs in the foreground. He can handle his own ground and he can handle whatever situation he is put into. With his large frame, Tschudi fills the net very well and it is very apparent that he has great control over his cage. He trusts the pipes and controls what he can. He pushes his own personal boundaries but he doesn't push the game. Dennis is very talented with the speed aspect of the game as well. He is very quick to respond to any sort of threat and he is always watching the play going on before him. He knows exactly where his blocker needs to go, he knows exactly how to position his pads in order to get the most coverage as possible, and he knows exactly what must be done in order to win games. All in all, Dennis is a highly talented goaltender who has an incredible grasp on the game. Good luck Dennis with the Long Beach Bombers and your future hockey career!

Filip is 6 ft 4 in, 214 lbs, and is from Jonkoping, Sweden. In the 2013-2014 season, he had 19 goals in 33 games played, 15 assists, 34 TPs, and 16 PIMs. Ahl is eligible for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and has been ranked 8th overall for European Skaters. Filip is a highly sought after prospect for the many great qualities that he brings to the table. First off, it is very evident that Ahl brings a great amount of intelligence to his style of game. It is very clear that he has a great grasp on the game and backs his movements up with that knowledge. Another great thing that Filip does would be his assertiveness on the ice. He plays his large frame to his advantage and is always letting everyone around him know that he won't be knocked down. Ahl is great with both the physical and the offensive aspects of the game and can flip between the two with great ease. He is a very dominant player who is very skilled with the puck and is the teammate who you give the biscuit to, to ensure its journey to the opposing cage. In a positive way, he uses his skills to his advantage as well as to his team's advantage. Filip will be a great prospect for any team to pick up due to his aggression on the ice and the ambition he has to win. He is very determined to succeed with his goals and he is the type of skater who definitely lifts his team up for as long as possible. It is great to see such a bullet train of a player during games because you know that the puck is going to stay in a fast pace, he is not going to give up the battle until the very end, and he will throw punches if the game calls for it. Good luck Filip with HV71, the NHL Draft, and the rest of your hockey career!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
