Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! I am going to continue on my thoughts from the previous game! I just want to reinstate the fact that I am writing this because this was a very intense game with many positive attributes shown (I will be doing this for other teams throughout the season as well so no need to worry) and this is the first junior game I was able to attend for the start of the season. Let's get this underway!

The first player I want to talk about today is Joey Porco. He is an incredible skater due to his never ending determination. He is always doing as much as it takes to have his team victorious at the end of the night. Joey can make a scoring opportunity out of any situation and is great at rushing the puck in order to create chances for his teammates to get points on the board. He is a player that is always reliable for the team and will support his organization as much as he can. Porco plays a very clean game but he can also be very aggressive when it need be. He plays a very respectable game but when he needs to step up and work the boards or go up against an enforcer or two, he will step up his game immediately. He plays the ice to his advantage and plays a very large game. Joey is always giving 110% and has a very bright future in the sport. He has phenomenal stickhandling skills and is great at getting the biscuit to his teammates. Definitely a player you want on your team if you're looking to rack up back to back wins!

Next up is Edward Pollon. I have reviewed Edward before, but he is certainly the type of player that is constantly improving and changing his game to keep up with new styles of play. He is quick and agile during games but is also constantly trying his best to keep the puck near his opponent's goaltender. He is most definitely a scorer for Missoula and never fails to keep the team going during even the most stressful of moments. Edward always plays the ice two steps ahead of the competition and is constantly trying to play his absolute best every second he has for shifts. He can play a very good physical game but most of the time he is trying to get his teams as many points on the board as possible. If I was to compare him to an NHL prospect to give a you good idea of how he performs during matches, it would be without a doubt Sam Reinhart. Very intelligent about the game, has good instincts to carry out even the trickiest of plays, and is able to see the game as a puzzle fitting the necessary pieces together to complete the big picture.

Tanner Todd. He can snipe any tendy and he will drop the gloves with any enforcer he meets. Todd has a great balance of aggression and scoring wit in his game. He isn't afraid to whip the puck around the ice and work the boards within seconds of each other. He is definitely one of the toughest players I have seen go through the Maulers organization and is doing a great job at handling an enforcer's role while still lighting the lamp enough to keep him as a stats leader. Most players try to play ahead of the game but Tanner plays along with the game and it works because he is constantly perceiving everything that is going on. If he sees that an opposing player has the puck, he will change on the turn of a dime and assess the problem. Honestly, he is one of the best types of players to have on a team because he is ready for any situation the game could bring. Tanner is incredibly quick on the ice and has great on-ice vision. Todd is great at digging the puck out of corners and getting it out to open ice for a rush as well. You could almost describe him as a grinder but not quite exactly.

One of the rookies I have been impressed with the most would be Alex Shalamov. He has two years of juniors left and hopefully he will find himself in the NAHL by that point because he is an absolute brick wall of a player. Alex's style, as far as I can tell at the current moment in time, would be hard hitting, fast puck movement, and a pin point accurate slap shot. He is intimidated by no one and sees every movement of the puck as an opportunity for a geno. He will plow through any defensive line, and most of the time, come out with the puck in tow ready to go top shelf. Shalamov is very concentrated when his line goes out and is there to get the biscuit in the back of the cage. Another one of his talents would be going coast to coast. If Alex has the puck, one of the hardest things to accomplish would be to try and steal it away. It will be great to see where Alex's game heads this season because he has all the qualities to be one of the best players in the WSHL.

I have talked about Matt Chamberlain quite a bit during the last couple of seasons so this review will be a little brief. Matt is currently playing one of the best games I have seen from a junior player. He is digging deep, bringing his best talent to the ice every time he leaves the bench, and is out there to make sure the wins are brought home. He is playing an absolutely huge game and is always out there putting the elbow grease into his shifts. His determination is off the charts and he out there playing his heart out for the game he loves. In my opinion, he should have been given the "C" because he is a great leader to all of the rookies and to his fellow veterans. If you want to see a player that plays the game for the immense love of the sport and that pushes himself to the absolute limit for his team, start watching Matt Chamberlain.

You may or may not know that at this point in time, I will not be resuming Maulers Recapped for this season. I thought this review of players would be a good way to get some exposure for the skaters and to start a new segment on Biscuits and Breezers. Yes I know I introduce many new segments but it is because I want to get as much attention to players in leagues all around the globe for the hard work and determination they put into the greatest game! Teams I will be reviewing in this format in the future will be organizations such as the Idaho Jr Steelheads, Ogden Mustangs, Southern Oregon Spartans, Cheyenne Stampede, Yellowstone Quake, Pittsburgh Vengeance, Toledo Cherokee, Dells Ducks, Rochester Ice Hawks, and many many more!

Thanks for reading another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Every blog will be filled with updated hockey news, player reviews, and much more! Until next time remember, don't get your breezers in a bunch because hockey is always around the corner. Remember, it's always a great day for hockey and it's a lifestyle not just a sport!

Fight of the Year Biscuits and Breezers        Before I move on to anymore news, I wanted to feature a fight that I think should be up for a fight of the year in the WSHL. This scrap was between a beast from Missoula and a goon from Seattle. That's right Austin Azzinnaro and Piers LaFrance battled it out in Missoula's last home game and it was amazing. You should have seen these two go at it! It was a complete yard sale of mitts, twigs, and buckets, and by the time Auzzie was done with the Totem, LaFrance was thrown out of the rink looking like he had just met Ross "The Boss" Rhea from Goon. Azzinnaro was ejected in pure beauty style; waving to the roaring fans, excited as can be, and pumped for another round. It was an absolutely incredible fight and I have never seen a junior fight go down as sweet as that one did. Not to mention this was Austin's first tilly! He is a born fighter and obviously it comes by him naturally because the skills he ha
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost always cle
