Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog, it is all about the Stanley Cup Finals! With the Kings leading 3-0, they are on the fast track to winning the Stanley cup! With a red hot goaltender and having one of the best rosters ever, the Kings could take it all! Lets start off with Game 2. Taking Game 2, 2-1 in overtime, the Kings put another game into overtime. Canadian center Jeff Carter sniped one past Brodeur at 13:42 assisted by Canadian left wing Dustin Penner and American defenseman Alec Martinez to end the overtime and to claim another game for the Kings. Ultimately, this could be another sweep for the Kings. Quick is red hot and furious, making 32 saves and having a save percentage of .970. The first goal of the game was scored at 7:49 in the first period from Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty unassisted. In the second period there was no scoring but in the third period American center Ryan Carter scored against probability on Jonathan Quick at 2:59 assisted by Czech defenseman Marek Zidlicky and Canadian right wing Steve Bernier. Then Jeff Carter's amazing goal in overtime saved the Kings from a loss and from giving up their steam and determination. The LA Kings could end up being the best team in the NHL this season! Wo do you think will win the cup? Let me know in the comments below!

Now, we have Game 3. Shutting out the Devils 4-0, it could be a precursor to how the series will end, but we will have to see about that on Wednesday, June 6th. There was no scoring in the first period, but things started heating up in the second period with a powerful shot by American defenseman Alec Martinez at 5:40 assisted by Canadian center Dwight King and American center/right wing Trevor Lewis. Then one of the best players on the Kings, in my opinion, Anze Kopitar fired one past NHL veteran Martin Brodeur at 15:07 assisted by American captain and right wing Dustin Brown and Canadian right wing Justin Williams. Jonthan Quick was really woriking his name by having 22 saves and a save percentage of 1.00. Then in the third period, Canadian center Jeff Carter scored for the Kings at 4:15 on a power play assisted by Canadian center Mike Richards and and Canadian defenseman Willie Mitchell. At 6:47, another power play goal was scored by Canadian right wing Justin Williams assisted by Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty and Slovene alternate captain and center Anze Kopitar. That was the final goal of the game and it proved that if the Kings really want the Cup they will get it! Good luck to the Kings in the mad dash for the cup and to the Devils who are just trying to keep up!

Now we have the "Players of Today". For the European pick we have is Swiss Bern U20 Elite Jr. A player Christoph Bertschy. For the goalie pick we have WHL Everett Silvertips' goalie Austin Lotz. For the NHL pick we have Anze Kopitar, center for the LA Kings.

Starting off with the European pick. Christoph is 5ft. 10in, 170lbs, and is from Le Mouret, Switzerland.  Christoph is a center/right wing who plays for the Bern U20 Elitte Jr. A team and the Bern NLA team. With the U20 team, he had 7 goals in 13 games played, 15 assists, 22 TPs, and 22 PIMs. With the Bern NLA team he had 8 goals in 31 games played, 8 assists, 16 TPs, and 10 PIMs. In the playoffs, he had 1 goal in 17 games played, 1 assist, 2 TPs, and 8 PIMs. Christoph is signed with the Bern NLA through the 2012-2013 season. He has sharp skills, fast blades, and a very big and strong presence on the ice. Great job Christoph with Bern  and in the hockey world and good luck with your future hockey career!

Next off, we have the goalie pick. Austin is 6ft. 0in, 185lbs, and is from St. Adolphe, Manitoba, Canada. Playing for the Everett Silvertips of the WHL, Austin has 17 games played, 57 goals against, 817 minutes played, 441 saves, 4.19 goals against average, .886 save percentage, 2 wins, 9 loses, 0 overtime losses, 2 shut out losses, 0 ties, and 0 shut outs. Austin is very attentive at the net and can catch the slapshots and blcok alot of  incoming shots. It is unclear where he is signed for the 2012-2013 season, but wherever he is signed, that team will certainly benefit from his goaltending. Good luck Austin in goaltending and in your future hockey career!

Finally, we have the NHL pick. Since the Kings are doing so well in the post season, I thought I would review one of their top scorers. Anze Kopitar is 6ft. 3in, 225 lbs, and is from Jesenice, Slovenia and lived in Sweden for a couple of years. He was drafted in the 1st round 11th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft to the LA Kings. In the 2011-2012 season he had 82 games played, 25 goals, 51 assists, 76 TPs, a +/- of 12, 20 PIMs, 8 power play goal, 2 shorthanded, 2 game winning goals, 230 shots, and a 10.9 S%. Anze is a very good player who really works with his team and makes things happen. In the Playoffs and the Finals, Kopitar really proved that he has what it takes to be one of the best players, I think, in the NHL. Good luck Anze in the Finals, great job in the NHL, and good luck in your future hockey career!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
