Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will be talking about New York Rangers right wing Marian Gaborik's progress on his shoulder surgery and Jeff Skinner's contract extension with the Hurricanes. Starting off with Marian Gaborik. As we all know Gaborik had shoulder surgery on June 6th to repair a torn labrum. Basically, the labrum is located by your shoulder socket, it is almost like cartilage that deepens the surface of your shoulder joint. If you got that I am glad I could help clear things up, if you didn't it's ok I admit I am not the greatest at describing the human anatomy sorry if you didn't! Anyway, he had his surgery and it came out that his rehab for his shoulder has been going well. Currently, he has moved from simply riding a bike to lifting weights again. This is very good because shoulder surgeries can be very tricky and if they aren't performed well or something goes wrong, it can cause a lot of damage. Hopefully when he returns to his home country of Slovakia next week, things will still be going well and healing properly. Best wishes with your rehab and recovery!

Next thing we will talk about is another contract by the Hurricanes. The Canes are really racking up great players. They have the Staal brothers, Alexander Semin, and now they have re-signed Jeff Skinnner. Having one year left on his entry-level contract, Skinner has signed a 6 year $34.35 million contract with a salary cap of $5.725 million. He will make $4.35 million during the 2013-2014 season and make $6 million for the rest of his contract. So he will be set with Carolina for the 2018-2019 season. Maybe then can he finally experience a Stanley Cup playoff and maybe even a Stanley Cup win. Do you guys think that the Hurricanes will be Stanley Cup contenders will all the new contracts? Let me know in the comments below! Well hopefully young Jeff Skinner will be able to have the time of his life!

Now we have the "Players of Today". For the junior pick we have IFK Kumla Division 1 left wing Carl-Johan Sjogren. For the European pick we have Vaxjo J20 SuperElit left wing Viktor Steenson. For the goalie pick we have New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Starting off with the junior player. Carl-Johan is 6ft. 2in, 198lbs, and is from Sodertalje, Sweden. In the 2011-2012 season he had 16 goals in 40 games played, 23 assists, 39 TPs, 54 PIMs, and a +/- of 5. He recently played with the Wenatchee Wild in the NAHL for the 2010-2011 season with 20 goals in 42 games, 26 assists, 46 TPs, 39 PIMs, and a +/- of 11. Carl is signed with the Skovde IK Division 1 team for the 2012-2013 season. He is a very good player with great hands, puck domination, and works to the extreme on each shift. Carl-Johan has very sharp skills and shows them very much when he is playing. Good luck Carl-Johan with Skovde and your future hockey career!

Next we have the European player. Viktor is 6ft. 0in, 214lbs, and is from Vaxjo, Sweden. In the 2011-2012 season, he had 2 goals in 26 games played, 0 assists, 2 TPs, 12 PIMs, and a +/- of -10. Something I am very excited about is that the Missoula Maulers will be acquiring his talent and skills for the 2012-2013 season. I personally like watching the Maulers among many other junior level teams play because they are known for sending players up into the higher levels of hockey whether it is college or the NAHL or even higher. They are also known for warmly welcoming young Swedish/international players! Viktor, let me be the first of many fans and spectators all over the country to welcome you to the Maulers! Welcome and if you are reading this good luck with your season! Can't wait to see you play! Viktor has soft hands, sharp eyes that are constantly looking for the puck, and great concentration on the ice. He will be a very important addition to the Maulers! Good luck Viktor in the AWHL and with your future hockey career!

Now we have the goalie pick. He is 6ft. 1in, 195lbs, and is from Are, Sweden. Henrik was drafted 7th round 205th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2011-2012 season he had 39 wins, 18 loses, 5 overtime loses, 8 shut outs, 123 goals against, 1,753 shots against, .930 save percentage, 1.97 goals against average, and 3,754 minutes played. Henrik has great butterfly techniques, glove catches, and is really tracking the puck everywhere it goes. I wonder if he is excited about playing with Rick Nash? Thoughts? I know a lot things have been going on personally with players but here is something special. Lundqvist's wife Therese Andersson had a healthy baby girl named Charlise on July 10th at 8:33pm. Congrats King Henrik and Therese on the baby girl and best of luck! Good luck Henrik with the Rangers and in your future NHL career!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
