Biscuits and Breezers

Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! I am terribly sorry that I have been away from here for quite awhile! I have been trying to establish things on my new page on juniorhockey.com, I have been helping with the scouting process of many teams, and I have been trying to get everything under control on the Biscuits and Breezers Facebook page. I thought that I needed a break from of all that and remembered there is much more NHL news to report to you guys, my beloved readers! Yes it is now the NHL offseason but we do have a new Stanley Cup Champion, and if you have been keeping up with the news at all, you would know that that team is the LA Kings!! Yes the Kings have dominated the league once again to prove they are a dominant organization after taking the Cup away from the grasps of the New York Rangers with a final score of 3-2 in a DOUBLE OVERTIME game. Those two overtime periods were absolutely wicked and really showed what playoff hockey was all about. Alec Martinez made the shot past Lundqvist that gave southern California their second cup in 3 years. Absolutely incredible. Anyway, congratulations to the LA Kings on their Stanley Cup win and I can't wait to see what next season brings!!!

Now for the news! I won't be writing player reviews because I have to catch up on quite a bit of NHL headlines but next article I can promise you there will be reviews! Today I have for you 4 contract extension and 1 coach signing. On with the signings!

The Montreal Canadiens have signed and agreed to terms with forward Dale Weise. Weise has been signed to a two-year contract in the midst of becoming a restricted free agent as of July 1st. The financial terms were not released. Alex Stalock (G) and Mike Brown (F) have both also signed two year contracts with the San Jose Sharks. Stalock would have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st but will now remain in San Jose. The financial terms were not released but it is reported that Stalock will earn  $1.5 million in the 2014-2015 season and $1.7 million in the '15-'16 season. Brown, also signing a two year deal with the Sharks and avoiding UFA, will earn $1.15 million in the 2014-2015 season and $1.25 million the season after. Going up the great Canadian city of Edmonton, the Oilers have signed 22 year old Finnish forward Iiro Pakarinen to a two year entry level contract. No financial terms were released. Lastly, the Colorado Avalanche have re-signed forward Jamie McGinn. It is reported that McGinn will earn $2.9 million in the '14-'15 season and $3 million in the '15-'16 season.

Last but not least, during the reconstruction of the Hurricanes coaching staff, the Canes have finally signed a new coach. That lucky candidate is no other than Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Bill Peters. Prior to coaching in Detroit, Peters has been behind the bench for the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL and the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL. Bill also interviewed with the Florida Panthers but decided to put pen to paper in Raleigh. Bill Peters will be filling the coaching position after the firing of Kirk Muller left it vacant.

That's all the news for today, thanks for reading another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Every blog will be filled with updated hockey news, player reviews, and much more! Until next time remember, don't get your breezers in a bunch because hockey is always around the corner. Remember, it's always a great day for hockey and it's a lifestyle not just a sport!

Spotlight Player Emil Travergard       Biscuits and Breezers         Welcome back to another blog for Biscuits and Breezers! This is another post for the Spotlight Player series, and the player featured today, is a prime example of the defensive qualities that are capable in blue liners. Trending on an upward slope, this particular player brings fire to the ice as well as quite the chill. He may be an independent skater, but he is almost always his team's biggest supporter in the long run. The next Spotlight Player is Haninge Anchors defenseman Emil Travergard!     Emil Travergard - Haninge Anchors (D)   Height: 6 ft 2 in  Weight:  215 lbs Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden 2013-2014 Stats: 1 goal in 23 games played, 3 assists, 4 TPs, and 14 PIMs with Hammarby J20         While watching Travergard on the ice during his stay in the WSHL, he certainly brought a spar...
Jamie Zaleski Biscuits and Breezers    Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! Today you will be able to meet and get to know FHL Danville Dashers center Jamie Zaleski a little bit better. You don't come across a player very often that is so passionate about the sport that he takes immense pride in every game he plays or every time he represents his team, but today I believe I was able to talk to one of those chosen few. Jamie is an amazing player who beams passion and talent every time he walks onto the ice for a game and when you see him play, I guarantee that by the end of the game you will be as stunned as I was when I first watched a Dashers game. Zaleski is the perfect player seeing that he has the ideal combinations of aggressive and physical plays, speed, and can score whenever it needs be. I have seen some pretty aggressive players in my time but Jamie Zaleski is the definition of aggression out on the ice. His hits are almost alway...
#32   Biscuits and Breezers          Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this blog we will talk about the Oilers' team regrowth and Wild prospect Mario Lucia breaking his leg. Starting off with the Edmonton Oilers. I have recently talked about Taylor Hall's signing and now we have another. This time it's Jordan Eberle's turn. He was just inked to a 6 year $36 million contract extension on Tuesday. With one year left on his entry level contract, this extension will keep him as the new youthful generation of players until the 2018-2019 season. Hopefully with Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they can produce a team almost as good as in the Gretzky era. Just give them a few years and maybe they will rise up and become a main threat again. We will see! Good luck Jordan with the new contract! I am quite excited to see the upcoming team.     Next thing we will talk about is Ma...
