Chicago Blackhawks: 2013 Stanley Cup Champions
Welcome back to another blog of Biscuits and Breezers! In this shorter version of our regular blog, we will be talking about Chicago's second win with Jonathan Toew as captain. Yes the Hawks have gotten the win once again! Beating the Boston Bruins 3-2, Chicago has won two cup titles within 4 years. You all might have heard about the 17 seconds that changed history and really that's what it was. Dave Bolland and Bryan Bickell scored 17 seconds apart in the last 1:16 minutes to lift up the team from Boston's lead. I am very glad that this team took home the cup because they worked as such a great unit and had such team "spirit" that they acted like one player instead on relying on the star players like Boston did. No offense Boston but there was definitely a stronger drive to play as a unit and passion in Chicago in my opinion. I felt like Boston relied mostly on their star players like Lucic, Bergeron, Seguin, Chara, Krejci, Rask, and Jagr to get things done. They relied on talent alone and they did not win because they did not have enough talent to win on talent alone (Heavily influenced by Herb Brooks.) The Hawks had a stronger team bond, in my opinion, by far. They relied mostly on team plays and thoroughly planned out game plans. Although Boston put up a really good fight initially, they started relying too much on their goalie and the defense to get things done. They really had a shot there and all of a sudden they sort of let it go. They turned over the puck way too many times and they missed some of the most crucial points where they could have played physically. Anyway back to Chicago! Congratulations to a repeat win in the same decade! I loved how the stars like Toews, Sharp, Hossa, and Kane let the unfortunately lesser known players like Bickell, Bolland, Kruger, and Frolik score on the big goals. Chicago had goals from Saad, Bolland, Oduya, Shaw, Toews, Bickell, Kane, Handzus, Kruger, Sharp, and Seabrook. Boston had goals from Lucic, Bergeron, Kelly, Paille, Peverley, Boychuk, and Chara. Even though at the beginning of the series when both teams were plagued with injuries, they fought through them and battled on as long as it would have taken. I do have to give credit to Patrice Bergeron for playing with a punctured lung, broken rib, torn cartilage, separated shoulder, and just about a broken nose. He definitely showed the world on a huge stage how tough hockey players really are. His injuries also brought out a large view on how enormous the hockey community is compared to other sports. I believe there was about 2 million parade goers for the Blackhawks cup parade. That is where Patrick Kane labeled Goaltender and team mate Corey Crawford MVP of the post season and each player got a chance to present the cup to the inhabitants of Chicago. The after party was absolutely one of my favorite parts of the whole ordeal. It was hilarious when Kane, the notorious party animal, partied in a unicorn mask, Toews drinking champagne out of the cup, and also Patrick Kane at a Jimmy Buffet Concert with the cup. Congratulations to all the fans and to the team one last time! You had a great end to the season and made everyone wanting more. I will include pictures of the final game, the parade, and the after party! I hope you enjoy! All images found on Google Images.
